Since this is the thread where you're addressing coolant temps, I'll comment here. Since you will now be manual trans, you won't be dumping heat from trans fluid into the coolant system. That will make a small difference. All of the little things add up. Bigger rad +no oil system heat + no trans system heat.

Just to discuss this further, as far as I can tell, the M57 came with an Additional Coolant Radiator, but there is no Oil Cooler.
Aux Radiator: X5: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=17_0481 335d: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=17_0479 There is a Coolant/Gearbox Oil Heat Exchanger. X5: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=17_0399 335d: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=17_0315 I do believe that the Coolant/Gearbox Heat Exchanger is a weak point on these cars. Transmission temps seem to get hot quick when towing. I am looking into upgrading this to an finned cooler similar to the Aux Coolant Radiator. An actual Oil Cooler would be nice too. Upgrading both of these could solve the issues with 335d's overheating on the track as well. The stock coolant system should be fairly capable in most situations once you remove the trans out of the loop.

My car run into the same problem at the track and at the road when the car is pushed really hard. I did a search and found nothing I made a thread about a csf radiator but there was no interest on it. I have changed the fan on the car and now searching a way to make it work earlier at about 95 celcius I will find a way to put a radiator from a 335i from csf. Also i am going to put 2 oil coolers. One for the transmission and one for the oil. I am thinking of using the spare space behind the bumper left and right As soon as find a way to go through all of the above i am going to post here. Any ideas are very welcome from anyone |

On the X5 I am going to be putting a transmission cooler behind the right front bumper area (the aux radiator is behind the left front).
How do you plan to tap for an engine oil cooler? On most BMW engines I have tapped the oil filter housing to accomplish this. EDIT: There is a coolant/oil heat exchanger on the back of the oil filter housing. Perhaps it can be re-purposed to accept an oil cooler? http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=11_2328
