OP- As others have said, hit it with some penetrating oil beforehand if you're really concerned. Worst case, keep the mig on standby if needed. Goodluck and let us know how it goes if you tackle the job yourself. |

Why are folks removing and replacing the studs on the cylinder head if they're not damaged? I thought only the manifold nuts needed to be replaced. My studs remained on the cylinder head except two that came off with the nuts while removing my turbos. I'm putting the two studs back after removing the nuts. TIS and Bentley manual both do not mention removing and replacing the studs.

What a dick comment. If his stud broke at a place where there wasn't enough exposed thread to use that trick, how else would you suggest to do it? You're clearly an expert. Let's hear what you would do if the stud broke off. If you're going to be a smartass, at least figure out what you're talking about first.

Welding a nut to a stud is a standard repair in the LS world. Surprised it's blowing everyone's mind here. Then again, the materials used on the BMW seem to generally be of better quality than the GM crap I work on. Good luck with the project, I may be doing this soon as well.
