I don't think 335i or M owners get upset. It's just funny/amusing to see that you want to look like a 335i but don't have the engine/car to back it up. Same way the M guys feel about M emblems on non M cars. You are trying to make it look like something it isn't by changing cosmetics. 335i guys put on m3 hoods and fenders and it's wack. I think most would agree if you want an M badge buy an M car, same with a 335i, etc.

I think of it like wearing fake watches or knock off Jordans. You are imitating the look of a higher performance/more expensive model. It doesn't make me mad it is just amusing me that someone would want to do it and be a poser trying to impress people by portraying their car/watch/sneakers as something it is not.

Now all that said the rear of the car looks MUCH better with a dual exhaust and mtech rear. I don't think anyone would argue that. If for some reason I was stuck in an n52 powered car and wanted to mod it's exterior I am sure I would do the same, granted I don't see that happening. At the end of the day do what you want to your car, just understand how others may view it and don't get butthurt over it.

Any updates?

I did the dual exhaust mod on my 325i and love it. I don't regret it at all. Since i've done it, there has been no cons.

In my opinion, do this mod if you're looking for aesthetics; not performance.

Good luck!

seriously who cares. the 335i is not rare or special. It's not a hand built M5 or something, it's a mass produced BMW 3 series that happens to have a turbo. Nobody is going to care or think a 328i is a 335i, and if they do, so what?

I still don't understand why you're trolling the N/A forum.

Never said it was rare or special. Putting duals on a n54 is still imitating the higher performance model. Just like a 335i putting on dual tips to look like an m3, that shit is whack. No one wants to be a poser. Just embrace the single exhaust, it's lighter.

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness" -Wilde

Unlike most people on this forum I have owned both NA and turbo e9Xs at the same time. I can post where I want. I can also give actual 1st hand experience regarding both engines & vehicles. This thread is about a cosmetic mod meant to imitate a 335i If it had dual tips and dual exhaust it would be imitating an m3. Plain and simple.

???? M5 is NOT hand built either, only the FIRST series was.. M cars are also mass produced in a factory. We are not talking Ferrari's here people..

The first two generations were hand built (that's what I was specifically thinking of when i wrote that).

The point is, they were special, rare cars, while the 335i isn't special at all. Putting dual exhausts on a non-335i isn't sacrilegious or something. Like nobody with a 335i ever tried to make their car look like an M3..

right people do try to make their 335i look like an m3. Those people are called posers, or worse things

I'm not a purist by any means but I think trying to cosmetically make your car look like a higher performance version(when it is not the higher performance version) is wak. I don't think anyone gets angry over it, like in my 1st post it is more amusing and flattery that someone wants to imitate your car's look. It's along the lines of putting type R or STI emblems/wings imo.

One thing that is cool is making you 335i look like a 328. Slap on the bumper and a single exhaust. No one expects it to be quick. A lil sleeper if you will. The hard core drag guys switch to a single exhaust for weight reasons. I would embrace the single.

At the end of the day it's your car. Do what you want to it. Just understand how others may perceive it/you based on your modifications.

I would agree if dual exhaust was something specific to the 335i. But it's not. Dual exhausts have been on all sorts of cars - plenty of them slower than even a stock 328i.

And actually, it used to be basically all BMWs had dual exhausts (meaning, dual pipes from manifolds all the way to the muffler tip). I'm not sure if they did it for cost or what, but it wasn't until the E9x that they switched to a single after the cats on the NA I6.

probably cost reasons, bmw likes their money. it also is probably to differentiate the different models. 1 tip, 2 tips, 4 tips = NA i6, turbo i6, NA v8. the number of tips goes up as does the performance. the different models have slight differences in aesthetics with the styling of the m3 being the most aggressive. it goes from less to more.

Yes guys... don't put dual or quad exhausts on your car... because it's wack. GTFO of here. Put on whatever you want on your car. Some people will like it and some people won't. So what? The single looks so ugly on the 328i. It's heavy as hell surprisingly too. As long as you are not a cornball adding M or 335i badges who the hell cares? Don't add the rice fart sound and you are good to go.

Lmao I agree there is a fine line. I'm just saying do what you want. When I think something looks cheesy I'm one of the first to call you on it. In the end though it's just my opinion. I like to keep things nice and clean for one. I'm not necessarily a purist but I'm about cleanliness. But let me tell you people do some stupid shit. I know a guy with a real 2011 X5M. He added another M on the left rear tailgate (yes the shock X5M badge is still there). Another M on each fender (below the vent that says M). Another M on the front grill. Refinished red calipers with M logo (that looks nice) but with the cheesy eBay M center caps. Also added M shoulder pads for his seat belts. Has M tire valve covers. The car looks like a wanna be M but it's the real thing makes me want to choke on my own vomit.

You guys do what you want with your cars. I'll build my cars my way! I have every intention of putting M3 style fenders on my car. It won't have an M3 hood. It will have the bumper. If you think I'm trying to be an M3, think again. I like the aesthetic. You want to call me a poser, that's your issue. I get so tired of all these snotty little people equating the BMW badge with money or social status. It isn't either. I drive them because they drive well and have great engines.

I think dual exhaust looks great. That said, the jury is out as to whether I'll put dials on mine.

Why not just get an m3 instead of making your car look like an m3? Honest question.

Good lord. This is turning into Honda-Tech.

That said - I personally prefer dual exhaust just from a symmetrical standpoint.

ok? It just seems easier to buy an m3 vs making the car look like an m3 but not having the performance to back it up. You can build an m3 too Do want you want bro seems like your mind is already made up.

Maybe you can have some 328i badges made for the m3 fenders like this guy did for his 335i: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1005869

How did this go from an exhaust question to m badges? You can't ask anything anymore without some type of bullshit. Sad.
