It won't be long until E85 is not available anywhere. In my state (NC) you can hardly find the stuff. I think that there might be a few stations in the entire state and none in Charlotte.

I'm just down the road in Greenville, SC and it's everywhere.

Op, Just get the blue tooth ECA from Steve at fuel-it. Don't rely on what the sticker on a pump says. Btw I posted a review of the ECA, you can search for it .

Yeah, but as I mentioned, how do you know before you fill up whether the pump has 50% or 85%? I suppose you could put in a half of a tank of whatever your usual blend is on the assumption that it's 85%, see what it reads on the sensor and then go back and get more of the same or adjust. But what a pain.

Yeah, exactly. By the time the sensor gets a good reading it's pretty much already too late, especially when you have a specific tune in mind BEFORE going to the pump.

I think it's great to know the ethanol content of what's in the car already but I'd rather know what I'm putting in at time of fill as opposed to after.

Now, if there were an ethanol sensor/LED display attached to a funnel that I could use while at the pump as I'm filling the tank, that's something I could get excited about

Well, there is that little graduated cylinder that Steve included along with the stage 2 kit. Bring along a one-gallon gas can (the smallest "approved container," I'd imagine) and a bottle of water, and test at (or just away from) the pump.

MHD is going to need to make an "E54" map

Its really not a pain at all. For example i have 2 e85 stations (mom and pop stations) by my house. One is very good and is e80 real content where as the other is on e60 at best. Now I only go to the stronger station which has been consistent. The ECA reads content very quickly, I'd say less than a mile or 2 you'll see the number climb or decline and the settle.

Honestly its very easy. When I'm a little less than 1/4 tank I add $20-25 worth of e85. I'll drive over to Shell gas station and top off with 93 as needed, which is usually one 2 gallons. The ECA reads the content pretty quickly.

I can't imagine having a cylinder ready each time I want to pump

And with a Cobb tune it is not so easy to change the tune so I have to play with the mix using gas cans. Luckily I don't drive it much so once I get the tank right it lasts for a while. I have VP fuels locally, I am considering getting it from them.
What part of San Antonio are you in. I think my go to Valero is switching now as all E85 pumps were down yesterday.

I was originally thinking that if this makes its way to Florida, I should get Steve's ethanol sensor/fuel line installed. But if pump ethanol is going to vary at any given time from E50 to E85, what good is that going to do if, say, you run an E60 tune like I do, you fill up with 10 gallons of what you think is E85 and 5 gallons of 93 octane to get the E60 mix, and find out the pump really had E50 because the sensor shows you're running E37? The only option I see is testing with the little plastic cylinder with water before filling up. Not sure of the logistics of doing that every time (carrying around a small gas can into which you can pump a splash of ethanol, and a bottle of water?).

That guy who put that picture also said, "I tested it at 74% ethanol. It was tested later that week at by someone else at 90%. I think they put the sticker on so they wouldn't have to answer questions about ethanol content fluctuations."

Hmmmm, makes ya wonder.. It's kind of like, guess what you're going to get when you're at the pump now.. smh..

I just tested the local U-Gas, which has most of the E85 stations in South Florida, and as it was a year ago, it's straight 85%.

Are there postings/signs on the pumps? I just filled up this morning at the Valero on Scottsdale and McKellips and did not see any new signs/postings. My car is not having any timing corrections yet either. I wonder if this station has yet to receive the "new" formulas.

There's about 15 stations with e85 pumps within a 10 mile radius of my house

Guys, you should always test the e85 at the pump. Don't rely on stickers on a pump. If you want to use the graduated cylinder, or ECA. It doesn't matter. If you want to run a e85 blend tune you should always know what is in your tank.

AZ used to be rock solid reliably E80ish plus or minus a couple points either way. All the time. Never had a bad tank, never had less than my target mix -not even once. Now all that's changed and we're in line with everyone else and gotta check. ECA going to be installed soon. I'll probably put the Fuel-it! one in.

Just a thought, but does anyone know if the gas stations or fuel companies keep a log of the exact content? I mean do they test it upon delivery or do any sort of quality checks that the station may keep a copy of?

Just out of curiosity, what did you use to get the E85 (and water for that matter) into the cylinder at the pump? Gas can, funnel/eye dropper?

Reporting from Newark Airport Gulf station (The only E85 pump in the area) in North Jersey and glad to verify that the ethanol content was exactly as advertised full 85%
That means my custom e85 map should be getting the proper fuel it needs Ha Ha .
