VRSF CATTED-DP gains with before and after dyno

My point exactly. It always falls under smell, noise, or emissions for fear of DP. Honestly though if VRSF can show that their race cat performs close or the same as the catless... then it's worth it.

Are there any estimates as to how long the VRSF cat will last?

I have read on here that after market cats degrade much quicker than stock and you're essentially left with a very expensive catless downpipe.

Love the sound, the gains.
Bought new from VRSF, installed on RWD. No issues.

CEL came on fairly quick. 2 months or so.. Car will not pass inspection without DP fix.
So what does degrade mean in tis context?

The smell is really over rated. You may smell something while parked in a garage with the car on which is a great way to commit an accidental suicide but otherwise there's no scent or smell.

Most people consider the added sound an upgrade. It really wakes up the stock exhaust

My car was dyno tuned without bolt-on products. I then purchased a Chargepipe, Plugs and the Catted DP as recommended.

I have the VRSF 3.5" Catted DP. I went back on the dyno after installation. I gained ~20+hp and ~25+lb ft tq. No smells no Check Engine Light. I am happily surprised with the results because I did not expect such a difference without additional tuning.

I just got quoted 220 for DP install in an XI. I'm definitely not gonna do it myself. There are some guys local (non-shop) in a FB group I'm in that could do it for cheaper probably, but they aren't as accountable as having a shop do it I bet. Are you gonna go Catted DP or catless?

$220 isn't that bad at all. HMM

If I do one it will be catted, I need some chance of not having a cell light right away as in MA I need to pass emissions and OBII check, I had HFC's on my G37 and never had an issue, but also only had a CEL twice in 3 years. The BWM catted DP's seem to be hit or miss :/

Much agreed with Tiago, the smell is relatively faint, especially being on a stock exhaust system. Cruising around town it's fairly quiet, though when accelerating it picks up some decibels, and from outside the car it has a nice sound/tone.

The most that I notice the overall sound is when cruising around 2k rpm on the expressway, there's a bit of drone, but honestly it's not that bad, with being completely unnoticeable if I turn the air on or the volume on the stereo up a bit.

The increased smell is only really noticeable for me when the car is sitting, especially in a semi-enclosed space, or if I'm standing smack-dab behind it.

*And hey, not trying to detract from this thread or catted downpipes in general, if that's what you prefer, then that's what you prefer.

Found out I'm emissions exempt for the upcoming emissions test. Its tempting me to go catless. I just really don't want to be too loud, sound like a truck at idle, and/or smell like a go-kart lol. Most of this is all opinions too, so some will say smell is fine or not bad, and others will say it smells really bad.

Your tune from wedge will clear CEL automatically wont it? And you could get a DP fix to pass emissions if those are your only concerns. At least I think the DP fix is still needed.

Crazy how one person doesn't smell anything and another person it's unbearable and no one wants to ride with them. Quite the contrast. There's gotta be other factors involved.

If there is a leak at the turbo or mid pipe you may smell something. Leaks can occur from improper installation as well as worn gaskets.

Another benefit to catted is to pass a visual test also. At least here in Calif. you can't pass the smog without the under hood inspection.

Are the catted DP's *actually* CA legal, as in CARB EO # and everything? Or do they just look legal, and since no codes are being thrown the shops are passing them?
Or do you not need a CARB EO number with newer cars as long as you have the cat and no error codes?? I'm used to exempt cars so trying to figure out what's up with an E92

Catted are not carb legal, no aftermarket downpipe is Carb legal
