Have fun tomorrow, are you doing the spring seats as well?

Nah he'll be fine. I've changed full suspension and will be pulling my shocks off next week all with just normal garage tools and those spring compressors I linked. As long as you take it patiently with the compressors then all good.

Well that was a ball ache. Couldn't get the springs compressed enough due to them not being cylindrical (they're almost egg shaped?!). Am having to walk up to the local mechanic tomorrow.
Compressors will be being returned - garbage. |

Really. Where were you trying to clamp them? You can clamp them at the bottom of the spring perch itself and one of the wider spring coils usually.

Tried pretty much everywhere Raj. Just couldn't get enough compression to get the top hat back on. Really didn't want to try and grip the compressor to the perch, as the compressor hooks were narrower than the perch.

Just spent 30mins with the tame mechanic and his realy compressor tool. New top hats put on. Now to re-install the coilovers to the car this afternoon.
Am seriously thinking about getting one of the hydraulic jobbies - £130 from machine mart and will make any future work so much easier! |

Right all put back together. Did the camber pin mod at the same time, so have more camber on the front wheels too. Will be taking the car for an alignment tomorrow after work, so will be interesting to see the readings.
Have managed to lose my locking wheel nut in the process.... f**k. |

So the car feels really nice to drive right now, oddly enough. Vibrating through the steering wheel has really reduced at speed, and there's a more direct feel through the steering wheel. Not sure if that is an effect of the new mounts, or that I have more camber in the front wheels.
Eyeballing the wheels in relation to the arches, I reckon I do now have a bit of toe-out. Will look to correct this once I get paid. Now just need to get myself another locking wheel nut remover, and also get the rear camber and toe pins un-siezed. |

You haven't left the locking wheel nut tool in your socket have you? I spent a hour looking for mine a while back, I'd left it in the socket & had put it away.
