We had so few trick-or-treaters last night that I was telling the kids to grab a handful at a time. When I was a kid, my mother used to keep track of how many kids came to the house I remember some years it was in the 150's.

I used to be big on the trick or treating thing, decorated the house and yard, all that. Now I just stick a pumpkin out front and go to the bar for the sexy costume contest.

My kids (14 year olds) got thier pillow cases about a 1/4 full, then went and played candy texas hold'em at a friends house. One won about 4 bags of peanut m&m's. I'll be enjoying those.

Man why didn't I think of that as a kid, we would just watch movies and eat it all. But I LOVE swedish fish so I could usually come out ahead by trading with those who didn't.

Wife started out giving each kid one. As I looked at the crowd, then at the overflowing basket of stuff still to give out I told her "Throw that stuff away or I will die from eating it all"

Suddenly the kids were allowed to grab a handful each. Some teens really made an effort, digging their fingers deep into the pile.

I was half joking. But it is easy to forget how well off we are compared to the majority of the nation, let alone rest of the world.

As we get more successful we tend to work and associate with people of our own success level. It's really easy to not notice the person in traffic next to you idling on fumes, trying to figure out how they are going to pay for groceries, let alone fuel.

jgoens is a perfect example. That ghetto shack he resides in is only brightened up when his two middle class vehicles are parked in the yard. (driveway is occupied by pop up camper for the in-laws) We have no idea of his struggle in California. No water, no freedom..... just skunks.

To get back on topic, we had a record 17 kids show up at the house last night. We weren't going to buy any candy because i just threw out the candy from last year. But the law states if you don't have candy the kids show up, so i got a very small bag. The first group accounted for 11 of them. So we were on a strict 1 piece per person limit to ensure we had enough. Nobody complained. Well, except for one girl in the first group who was whining to get hers first. I'm pretty sure the lesson didn't sink in, but it made me feel better making her wait until everyone else got candy first.
