I just tried it with the battery out and no dice. I know for a fact someone said it was RFID in some other thread, but clearly they were mistaken. It needs the battery.

I got mine from JLevi.. Paint matched perfect and there's a hole for the LED...

VERY easy, just go to the Bimmian website and go to their DIY form the actual product.
Essentially you just use a Hex and unscrew the locking mechanism and then put out old lock, install dummy piece and rescrew in, took me like 5-10 min TOPS. Let me know if you have any more questions
