I'll be in LA Thursday evening through Sunday night..and will be staying in Santa Monica. pumped cuz this is my first time to LA too...well first time STOPPING in LA...I've driven through it before.

I'll ask my friend about the Office bar and some of the other places mentioned on here. any additional suggestions you SoCal-ers have for food/bars/stuff to do would be appreciated!

depends on what you are in the mood for and how long u are staying... clubs will be happening on tues and thursday (during weekdays) terms of food, are u wanting to hit the spots that are "popular" or do you want to go to places that just have great grub??

if you're staying in santa monica, i suggest taking a short trip to malibu for what is quite possibly the best thai food outside of thailand... it's called CHOLADA, it's off the PCH... take a nice scenic trip through sunset blvd (heading west) and it will end at the ocean and PCH...

JONES in hollywood, best bread and ravioli, great bar, great looking waitresses...

I'm not sure what the Office is that u mentioned, unless you're talking about Father's Office?? Cabo Cantina off of wilshire always has a packed house on the weekends...

lemme know if there's anything specific as to what you're looking for...

my flight is scheduled to land at 8PM thursday and take the red eye back to DC at 11:30 Sunday night. So pending any major delays Thursday, I'll be able to go out after I land (in Santa Monica) and have all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday to do whatever.

thanks for the thai restaurant and other suggestions...sounds real good. looked it up online, solid menu and prices are fairly reasonable too. I certainly will consider it because I am going to malibu to go surfing/kayaking.

but santa monica to malibu will be the general area i spend most of my time...wasn't planning on firing up the downtown popular spots...but am certainly open to it if theres something worthwhile going on...or if its worth it to see some of the famous Hollywood sites?

someone earlier in this thread mentioned a bar in santa monica called office...but not exactly sure

essentially, I am hoping to spend the daytime on or around the beaches...the more natural..the better! then fire up a bar/club scene at night.

appreciate your suggestions. hoping it'll be a good, relaxing, SPRINT of a weekend trip.

well if that's the case, then yes, definately hit up Cholada... hard to see it though, it looks like a little hole in the wall, but i'm telling u, the food is MONEY... order the pad see u or pad thai of course... (don't ask me the spelling)

if you're looking to party it up at night but in the general area of malibu, DUKES is always decent, (good sunday brunch) but more of a guys hang out scene with the bars, but MOONSHADOWS is always a good place to go, especially if the weather is warm... the ladies like that place and it is what we locals now call MEL-SHADOWS, considering that was the spot mel gibson left before getting his infamous DUI... both those places are off of PCH...

nah, not worth hitting the hollywood tourist scene, IMO it's a little overrated, and Hollywood, well, she's like a hooker... you do NOT want to see her in the daylight, and even at night she's a little suspect... there's a bunch of lil bars over in santa monica, 3rd street and beyond...

niice. i'll check all that stuff out....and i'm glad you vetoed the downtown sites...figure i'll save visiting that scene to a time after i'm married or out there with a girlfriend.

...either of which doesn't appear to be happening anytime in the near future. haha.

thanks again.
