Only when the temps get into the low 20's or if I haven't started the car in a while in regular weather do I ever see the glowplug light illuminate.

Right now in NYC it's 18 degrees F out. Saw a quick glow. Started right up. Wasn't happy idiling, lots of loud noises but once she warms up, she runs fine.

I added some Diesel Kleen winterizer into the fuel last night just incase it wasn't ready for the low temps.

i currently live in Chicago, i and if you are not familiar the temp has been hovering around 0 degrees fort about a week and this caused a potential issue to my car, despite having consistant successful cold starts my 335d chokes out a bit and has a rough idle until after a few seconds going back to a normal idle. I dont believe that the car choking out is suppose to happen, has anyone had this issue? I beleive that the problem is glow plug related and i might need to purchase new glowplugs. Can anyone help?

Are you running winter blend? It sounds like the fuel is awfully close to gelling and struggles a bit until the fuel heater gets everything flowing properly.

In very cold weather this is completely normal for any diesel engine. She'll start rough then eventually smooth herself out. All my diesels have done this.

Yesterday I started my car after a week sitting outside and the starting temp was 6 degrees Fahrenheit.

She did not have any issues starting at all, no glow plug use nothing. Currently running a little more OL XPD at 5oz per tank.

The reason why I'm such an additive advocate is because I've tested this from small to large diesel engines; we have 6 different diesel machines on the farm. The start is always much better than without additive because of the ability for the fuel to flow easier at lower temps.

Also, we buy diesel in bulk and have had instances with fuel gelling on "winter blends". Although it's rare it has happened and did lead me on a journey with the product "Diesel 911".

Bottom line, don't trust what you buy without liquid insurance. I try not to be bias but please use a reputable and trustworthy additive whatever it may be. (Powerservice is fine)

You are what you eat, .

Does anyone else get a bunch of radio static/interference when it's cold, even if the radio is totally off?

9 below zero F the other night. The wife's X5d fired right up in the morning at 15F. Pretty awesome for a diesel.

In my 4 years of owning this car, so far there has only been one instance where it did not fire up. It was winter of 2015, after an ice storm. Car was displaying -29C and it would crank but wouldn't fire up. It fired right up as the temps rose to -11C the next day. Probably fuel gelled up or something. This was after i recently had a brand new battery and glow plug module + glow plugs replaced.

Weird, you get your fuel in the same place all the time? I've never had a gelling issue with the fuel up here.

Well, now i do. The car was parked outside then, maybe that was a factor as well. Now it sits in a garage overnight.
