Kia Confirms European Stinger Specs, Gets 200PS 2.2L Diesel

Quote:
Shortly after its presentation at the Detroit Auto Show, Kia has confirmed European specifications for its new Stinger sports sedan.

The big news here is the addition of a diesel powertrain on top of the two petrol units shared with the North American specification model.

The entry-level engine is a 2.2-liter turbodiesel capable of delivering 200PS (197hp) at 3,800 rpm and peak torque of 440Nm (325 lb-ft) available between 1,750 and 2,750 rpm. With the diesel, the 2017 Stinger accelerates from 0-100km/h (62mph) in 8.5 sec and tops out at 225km/h (139mph).

If you prefer to fill up with petrol, the Stinger can be had with either a 2.0-liter turbocharged four producing 255PS (251hp) and 353Nm (260 lb-ft), or a range-topping 3.3-liter turbo V6 punching out 370PS (365hp) and 510Nm (376 lb-ft). While no straight-line performance figures have been released for the 2.0L model, it will sit between the diesel and the V6, which can hit 100km/h (62mph) in 5.1 sec and reach 270km/h (167mph).

Kia will offer both rear- and all-wheel drive versions of the Stinger in Europe, with all models fitted with the brand’s second-generation, electronic eight-speed automatic transmission as standard.

While closer in dimensions to mid-size luxury cars at 4,830mm long and 1,870mm wide with a 2,905mm wheelbase, the Stinger is actually positioned against both regular premium compact sedans like the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and four-door coupe flavored models such as the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe and Audi A5 Sportback.

The Koreans have yet to announce pricing for the Stinger which will enter production in the second half of 2017, and go on sale across Europe during the fourth quarter of the year.

You're right, it's got the face of a BMW, ass of a Dodge Charger and side profile of an Optima trying to pretend it's a Panamera Mk1. The interior is a mashup of the Merc C class and generic Audi design cues.

A weird version of the Mercedes diamond grill too:

Kia - who knew?
Maybe not M/AMG, but looks to be competitive with 440i GC, but with a bigger back seat (and possibly more luggage space?) 8AT only, too. They're calling it a GT, not a full-on Sports Sedan.
Not particularly "small" - but less than full-size, non-luxury GT with Rear or AWD. And 10 year warranty.
The question then becomes - how much did Herr Biermann really get to influence suspension tuning? How's the steering? And what's pricing really look like?
I had a Tibby for a couple years and it was completely one-dimensional. But if they've really put in their time and effort developing this thing, I'd consider getting one for the wife when she realizes she doesn't need a 7 passenger Crossover/SUV.

One time I was sitting in a little hotel lounge having a few drinks. A Kia commercial came on the TV and a guy sitting several seats away said, in his best announcer voice, "Kia. When you can't afford the car it's supposed to look like." Seems to hold true.

Don't see anything good design wise about this car. The hood-line is too high, the cockpit is too low. the fastback shape is meh and the details are rip offs from other companies. Kia is not creating any clear own design language IMO and tries to pick pieces here and there from other companies. The interior is the same: it tries to copy the minimalist look of the Audi, but without their flair...

Exterior is nicer than interior , cool car namely on sides .Interior has some quirks to me ,these round air vents put me off instantly so is the gear knob . Why not a digital cluster panel

Hating aside... It'll sell. I commend KIA for their efforts. It is actually attractive from every angle, inside and out. Power is quite nice!
Kudos! I am all for "more options for the consumer".

Same is true of the Equus models, which have the Audi front grille, and the rest of the big Hyundai lineup which resemble a last generation S class Merc. But the little details -- the shapes of the lights and window treatments -- just miss.

They miss, but they aren't hideous. And it's sure more distinctive - and I imagine nicer - than the ubiquitous Camry.
Plus RWD.
I think it'll sell, but considering the derivative styling and questionable quality, it's all a matter of pricing and dealer support at this point.

I love this car and will likely end up with one when my lease is up. I always wanted a sporty sedan but none of the Usual Suspects do anything for me; 3/4 GC are meh, the c is out thanks to that droopy ass and column shifter, the a/s4 and xe are so under designed it's sad, the ats is fun but that interior, and the q50 rs is all go but little else.

If the Stinger drives as good as it looks I will snap one up. It seems to be a good package and should offer everything I want in a car, while coming in less than the premiums and near-lux brands.

2022 Kia Stinger Coming To The US With 300 Horsepower For Base Model

Quote:
It’s back, and better than ever.
The original Kia Stinger arrived in early 2018 as the Korean automaker’s offering to the sports car market. Like it or not, The Korean Car Blog recently reported that the latest Stinger – 2022 model year – is coming back to the United States.

Before we start, we’d be remiss not to mention that TKCB claims that all of this information is 100% true and has been confirmed by a Kia source. Regardless, the latest model of the Stinger is looking to be a genuine contender in the current lineup of U.S. sports cars. So what’s new?

Starting out, one clear focal point of the latest vehicle is sitting under the hood. The base vehicle from the factory will come with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine putting out 300 horsepower (224 kilowatts) – that translates to 45 more hp (34 kW) than the outgoing 2.0-liter engine used in the previous model. The increase in power does come at an expense with the rear-wheel-drive version starting at $37,135 and $39,335 for all-wheel-drive.

The 2022 lineup does away with the baseline GT model, only featuring the GT1 and GT2 variants – both utilizing an evolution of the previous twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 which now puts out 368 hp (274 kW). While both vehicles are nearly identical from a mechanical standpoint, the step up from GT1 to GT2 includes an upgraded sound system, electronically controlled suspension, ventilated front seats, and memory driver’s seats.

We could talk about mechanical semantics all day, but there’s a lot more to the updated Stinger than what lies under the skin. Other goodies include built-in keyfob remote start, additional interior ambient lighting, new leather, and quilting designs, and new wheels standing at 18-inches or 19-inches in diameter. Also included is a plethora of safety features including but not limited to a blind-spot camera display, junction turning collision avoidance, lane following assist, safe exit assist, highway driving assist, and rear occupant alert.

Many would argue that the sports car niche is already flooded with endless options already even before thinking about the Stinger. And they’d be right, but there’s a new kid on the block and he's clearly here to stay.

My sister has one on lease. She wanted a "fun" car and the salesman talked her into it. I thought she was crazy - till I drove it. They things freaking hauls ass.

$ for smiles - that salesman nailed it. I was literally shocked when I laid into it. I had never heard of them (this was a few years ago) and didn't look it up first. Glad I didn't. I enjoyed being surprised.

Even my bro-in-law who is death before anything non-bowtie was impressed by it - and he hates anything not domestic.

Looks like they used BMW for their wheel inspiration. I don't think this car was a bad attempt but for a model introduced in 2018 it got dated really fast especially on the inside. This is where the Koreans need to up their game as long as they continue to copy the Germans current designs while their models are in development they will always be somewhat dated when released as new. They need to be a bit more brave and take their own stab at moving the industry forward rather than using today's design cues for developing future vehicles.

Its funny how Kia poached Audi designers, and comes out with the RS7 Korea.
Meanwhile Audi's design language has stalled where Peyter left it.
