They were rated the top performing tire by car and driver (pilots and S-04's second place), http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...-sport-page-10

Their standard equipment on nearly every high performance car. Basically you won't go wrong with choosing them. Their are other good tires like the S-04 and others for a lower price. It also depends on how you drive the car. If you aren't pushing the limits on the road, then there are other good tires.
The PS4s sound like a great tire, and with a likely 30,000 rating I might could convince myself to include them as an option, but it sounds like they will only be available in 19 and 20" so it won't be an option for me as I am not replacing wheels. I have summer performance Bridgestone RE050A RFTs on now and just want to get them off. They will likely have around 15,000 miles on them when they come off. Performance wise they are good, but the ride is horribly rough and the tires are quite loud when worn below 6/32s.

This is what I wanted to hear. Thanks! So what about road noise. Could you say which ones are quieter?

Sorry, we apparently don't pay enough in California to have good enough roads to be able to hear the tire noise over the racket of the potholes

I'll answer the original thread

I have a 2011 335D tuned Stage 2 with EGR delete. I have the sport suspension package from BMW with 18" staggered oem rims. I have added Koni FSD dampers, Stiffer monroe rear shock mounts, and poly rear subframe inserts.

I run Michelin pilot super sports. They have a 30K tread life warranty, but since I have staggered rims I can't rotate the tires so they only warranty them for 15K miles. I get about 30-40K out of a set of fronts and about 18K from the rears, so you replace the fronts for every 2x on the rear. They remain quiet even as they wear, no wobbles no hums. Excellent tire even when "cold" or in the rain.

On my more powerful GTI, yes my stage 2 335D has less power (maybe 300WHP, GTI had 340WHP). I rotated my tires and had squared 18"s. They lastest about 22K miles. But the warranty always paid out for me and basically gave me 1/3 off a new set. The GTI had more than enough power to burn out the PSS's, and there was a noticeable difference when cold. Generally the GTI would spin till about 70-80mph, or when backing out of the garage, but it was great on the highway haha.

Sadly, I went to Costa Rica last August, and they had better pavement (where paved) then we have here in Houston, TX. We're quickly becoming a country with 3rd world infrastructure... LOL, maybe thats why pickups and SUVs are so popular as they ride well on our crumbling roads. I would comment that in general Houston has better than average pavement quality as compared to a lot of the US.

Haven't had a chance to drive them in the wet, but from what I have read they are marginally better than the PSS. Wet performance isn't a huge deal to me since I don't push my car when it rains or brake late. I treat rain kind of like snow.

My current Michelin PSS are the second full set I've had. They have over 30K miles on them and still have adequate tread to go through heavy rain and not hydroplane. They have, however, gotten a bit louder - just like I've experienced in other cars where the tires are nearly worn out.

The PSS are a bit "touchy" to steering inputs, IMO, but are probably the best cornering tire by far for this car. Since I do mostly long distance driving nowadays, I would be interested in a smooth tire that tracks better and wears out a bit slower.

My small exposure to Conti's verifies that they don't wear well. Michelins have rarely failed on my many different cars/trucks/etc. over the past compared to other brands, so I am definitely a Michelin man.

Definitely install the sway bars when you do the subframe bushings and differential bushings. The front is super easy to install, I got it on in about 20-25 mins with my lift. Maybe an hour on your back on a garage floor. The rear took me about 3 hours on my lift. A lot needs to come out to get to it. I didnt do the subframe bushings or diff bushings when I did the rear bar which makes double the work. Don't be me!

That happens?

I live off of FM646 in League City and TxDOT has put up barricades and re-stripped the lanes in preparation of widening the section of 45 by my house. Sigh, so once the BW8->NASA1 section is done, FM518->FM517 section will be under construction for probably the next 4 years....

Heck they've been working the BW8->NASA RD 1 for what 5 years?

I have the Bilstein PSS with whiteline sway bar, m3 front arms, and rear subframe bushings. My only regret is not getting a proper sway bar end link. I got the whiteline end link and it's about 2" too short. I'm ordering a 14" from turner now so that my sway bar doesn't hit my frame/tie rods. Look into it when you install the PSS. And I'm at highest ride height. Any lower and I'd need longer links.

Ps. I'm on a closeout set of Dunlop runflats from tire rack. And you think Houston roads are bad?? Try Corpus Christi. Don't do what I did.

What's the ideal psi to run the Conti DWs? I have 19s.

just installed DWS06 today 265/30/19 and 235/35/19....these replaced my last set of conti all season tires which gave me 2.5 years and 30k miles of great use...I'm in SoCal and don't auto-cross...and find the conti's to deliver a great mix of performance comfort and longevity

when i had them, i used the recommended PSI on the driver side door sill for 19". ride was solid and like someone said earlier, less mushy when at that psi (tire places tend to under inflate a bit i find)

good luck with the DW.. get ready to get another set of tires soon.

i'm wondering if i'll notice the performance difference from DW to DWS. shouldn't be a problem that i still have DW on the front, right? ha

I've ran them a few PSI higher than suggested for our car 35/42 for a staggered set-up. You can experiment what works for you, fronts especially. Also, keep in mind that flimsy factory rear subframe bushings and rear strut mounts can contribute to the wallowy feeling in corners. DW are a comfy long distance tire, at least that is what i found. Rears were worn quite fast though, may be my driving.

Are you currently running these? I curious what kind of mileage to expect from them. While I am sure there no PSSs, that price is hard to beat. They have pretty good reviews on Tire Rack.

I'm not, but my very good friend is running them on his 135i for about 10K now. He absolutely loves them and feels they are 99% as good as pilot sports for 1/2 the price of non zp's. The amount of joy I'll get from wearing out 2 complete sets of tires I'm sure will vastly outweigh the 1% difference on one set of pilot sports.

Stock, 120,000mi (190,000km).

1st year, the stock RE090a RFTs, then year 2-4 on set #1 PSS's and I have year 5-6 on set #2 PSS. Being up North, I run 17" Blizzak WS-80s in the winters, so I'd say the PSS probably get 30,000mi per set, easily.

The Super Sports are an amazing tire and have excellent wear! For the life cycle cost of the tires, they are a good value, even though amongst the most expensive to buy.

$0.02.

Cheers
D.
