It actually looks like he copies current BMW design. But his "touch" makes the cars look clunkier.

Behold:

I've seen in it person, too. Albeit a base one with halogens.

No. Bangle had style, even if it has not aged well. This guy is dreary and boring. He should be designing Toyota Terdcels.

It's so funny, and frankly pathetic that people think BMWs will start looking like Skodas now that this guy is on-board... Like really? You don't think that maybe there's a great deal of difference in design language and personality difference between those two brands? Do you think he's just going to toss out the last 100 years of BMW design cues and evolution? Really? Like seriously, be reasonable. One man doesn't create the entire exterior by himself...

So we had Audi which copy/pastes like crazy, Mercedes Benz got in the dance, now it's time for BMW...

While people say that BMW models look alike, sure they do, but at least in the the latest years, BMW Design made a slight effort to give each model it's own personality - I just hope this remains the same.

give the guy a chance. maybe he wanted to work in a place more challenging to really push the limits of what he is capable of. skodas are VWs with a front and rear facelift. BMW is a whole other beast. Lets see what he's made of instead of doing the usual "i hate this idea because its change and i refuse to give it a chance"

In Europe Skoda is a brand that continues to cannibalise VWs own products.
The new Kodiaq as an example emphasises this. It's bigger and more flexible than the Tiguan,Q5 etc yet costs a lot,lot less even with more standard equipment.
The Octavia is a c-segment car and if it was in the same outline as a VW Golf as a 5dr hatch other than its more Sedan with trick hatch. Then the Golf would be in serious trouble.

Can we not get a designer from Aston Martin or even Maserati?

I know German is block and strong and solid and all of that- but if Porsche can build nice looking cars- BMW should be able too.

Thankfully, any designs he created stay with the companies he worked for. He cannot "re-use" any of them at BMW. From what I see, he was very much a company man and designed within the limits of the brand. This is my only beef with Bugatti. Their signature design element is their grill, it's the same exact outdated 30's long nose design and has changed very little. At least BMW has changed with the times and still kept the kidney concept alive. The Chiron is an amazing design as well, it just needs to lose that pucker face.

Porsche is the benchmark IMO. They can give their cars a personality because they keep the brand exclusive by limiting the number of model lines available (iterations of a crossover like the x2 or a small sedan like the Audi A3 do not exist); they aren't watering down their brand, and you don't see 'Carrera or 911 Sport' packaged caymans.

The most simple statement I can make is: Porsche is about form and function, but sadly, BMW is just about function. BMW is not Porsche

Whether a person values paying for the exclusive attention to detail is another matter.

His work for Skoda has definitely been very successful.
That goes well with BMW's new design philosophy going with more angular lines, which is what one can say about current Skoda's designs... I'M pretty sure he won't be able to mess around with BMW's iconic design elements such as the Hofmeister kink...

You need to say that in Europe the "budget" brands are cannibalising the mainstream brands....
