Flashed back to the stock map, again. Unfortunately the misfire is still present. After reading a few threads it looks like I'll just replace the whole lot of coils and plugs, rather than chase the issue and have a car that runs like shit for an extended period of time. I really liked the stage 1 98Ron tune, and I'd like to go back to it.
BMR Autowerkes seems like they've got it all in one spot, $60 a coil and $160 for 6 plugs sound about right? Or should I go for the Delphi coils? Also, would it be a good idea to run some injector cleaner through the tank before I swap the plugs or after? Cause I really don't want to have to replace them too lol |

Smoke is potentially related to an oil leak. My engine bay smoked when the rocker cover gasket went as was dripping perfectly right onto the hot exhaust.
As for cleaning the best thing to do is to get a walnut / soft media blast of the intakes to clean them.

There was also a thread floating around here on injector cleaners and octane boosters, worth finding it and having a read, there were recommended and not recommended ones |

You can get plugs for $14us plus shipping off bms. Put cleaner in before or after it doesn't matter. |

So I ended up getting a set of 6 coils and the space plug socket from BMR (didn't want to wait for them to arrive from the States) and 6 new plugs (cheers Digitalism).
Still waiting on my electronic torque wrench to show up before I change the plugs, so I went ahead and changed the coils. Pretty easy job, watched Cobb's YouTube clip on how to do it, all over in half an hour. All coils seemed ok except the last one, closest to the firewall (is that 1 or 6?). Pulled it out and it looked pretty fouled. I'm wondering if this is due to the coil or the spark plug? http://share.photobucket.com/sharepr...hp?id=NTg3MTA= Took it for a drive, everything seems ok, fingers crossed it doesn't shit itself before I swap out the plugs. Also wondering if there is an example of what we are looking for in the datalog? Is there a thread that explains them? |

So finally got around to swapping out the plugs. Looked pretty dirty for being done 20,000km ago (or is that just me?)
http://share.photobucket.com/sharepr...hp?id=NjA0ODQ= Car idles a lot better now, and after a drive to make sure it was all ok, brought it back and flashed back to the MHD stage 1. http://share.photobucket.com/sharepr...hp?id=NjA0ODM= Hopefully now, with the new coils and plugs, it'll behave. Fingers crossed. |

Totally.
I was at my friend's house doing the spark plug change only. Then first drove the car by putting the broken coil back to the spark plug wall and drove back home. I could feel a knock on the engine on my way home. Eventually the car felt like shutting down whenever I stopped at traffic light. Misfire code came on as well. Bought the bosh coils from JD75 when I got home. Ended up even breaking the ceramic part of the spark plug into pieces and vacuum all debris as much as possible. Still not sure if there is any tiny little bits dropped into the engine. I also found that the bosh coils aren't as good built quality as the genuine BMW ones, particularly the locking mechanism at the top of the coil. |
