Drew,
Don't take it in. You will most likely get a notification by mail. Hold onto the notification. I have had recalls on other cars and I hate going to the dealer. I have sat on recall notices for years. I eventually take the car in for major service and give them a heads up on what recall work is outstanding that I would like done at the same time. |

According to the SB, my VIN may be in range. (But May 2007 build date.) Took it in, they said no recalls or open service items. Asked them to run diagnostics, which they did. Nothing showed up and they even sent the data back to BMW to double check. No dice, so I still have my original HPFP. Have had a couple of hiccups, but I guess not enough to warrant replacing the pump yet.

did your SA tell you if you had on of the newer pumps or a remanufactured Siemens? I'm curious if they are serious about getting more reliable units. I've got a fuel sending unit out, which worries me as I've heard that the ethanol is affecting certain parts including the sending units (or so the SA tells me) and wondered if the ethanol has been attacking the seals and such on the older Siemens pumps.

Exact same thing here... It strikes me as odd how some folks are getting mail and the dealer is doing it when the car goes in for oil, and others can't get their dealer to do it when they ask... |

Early 10/06 pickup, pretty sure the build was 9/06. 33K miles, no FP issues. Haven't been contacted though.

I don't believe the bulletin required updated programming. I just had mine done last week and don't remember them saying anything about an updated program. I do know I had no faults in the computer and didn't even bother removing anything. Of course I still have stock exhaust, air cleaner, etc. My car used to have long cranking about a year ago, but it went away by itself.

It's standard procedure to update the programming when the car is in for service where scanning the car is required. My SA said they'd update it when it's in for an oil change. Since I asked them to look for codes to see if my HPFP had issues, they updated it.

There was a software problem after I had my dealer put my summer tires on -- brake warning -- and they reprogrammed it. Seems fine, new font for the middle screen.

My car was in the shop for maintenance and they told me the HPFP was replaced under the recall. I guess my dealership has them in stock. Hurray for me. I guess it's nice to get a new pump, but I didn't have any problems with the existing pump. Better safe, than sorry, I guess.

no need to bring it back.. turn the ignition on and press the button to vent the sunroof and hold it down until the sunroof vents, closes, slides back and slides forward.. after it does all that the sunroof is reinitialized

Mine's "on order", too; seems weird that they'd initiate a service action like this without advance-shipping the replacement parts. I'd imagine each dealership has a fairly solid idea how many 335's they handle maintenance for.

*update*
I called my SA and even though my chassis # falls in the range, she did a direct look up of my VIN with BMWNA and said there was no outstanding service bulletin against my exact VIN and they cannot perform work unless a) my car shows symptoms consistent with the known problem or b) there is an outstanding service bulletin against my VIN. Looks like for the most part dealers cannot perform the recall work unless you receive a letter from BMWNA, meaning there is an outstanding service bulletin against your exact VIN. She also did not know if the new fuel pumps were different pumps all together or updated versions of the original.

I have yet to receive a letter, but the work was done last week. I wonder why dealerships are different? It's not like they have to pay for it, BMW will pay for the parts and labor. This is an opportunity for the dealership to make money and build customer trust.
