If INSTA-P is the same thing should I let it go past the error of low voltage? I started the testerGUI thing and idk I don't think that's it.. INSTA-P does pull up my car info all correct but before it gets about half of it displayed is when I stop it.. I don't see INSTA-D anywhere for some reason and it was the first thing I installed before I went on to INSTA-P

Pretty sure I figured it out and I'm posting pics now of the errors my hook up of the power supply and the test results from what I assume is INSTA D but it just says INSTA.. I'm doing D - Diagnostics though so lets hope I was in the right place.. Looks promising Editing photos now

Program was labeled INSTA+ at the top I took a short video too so that you can see some of the options I have to pick from but I'm fairly certain I'm in the right place now..

low voltage.. that's the issue at hand.. just a clarification update for others.. Im sure you're as stumped as I Sense as with the 700a I should NOT be having this issue.. tested the 700a and its working perfectly.. IDK.. gonna nap on it.. any and all ideas welcome.. might manually test posts all over car with meter after this nap and YES battery terminals are tight, not too tight but tight.. just sayin..

and gonna work on the video take out the loading screens, get vid converted and such for youtube upload. I'm also auto charging the car for a couple hours at least. I may just push forward with it if I can just get the voltage up to 12.6 without the charger but I'm eager to check with a multimeter what my voltage is at throughout the car when the power supply is hooked up to different points.. I really feel like it should be the same and just now I'm wondering if I need to replace some fuses.. Well I'll update with vid link and anything new I find out. Sense if you think of anything no matter how trivial LMK. I'm getting the feeling that something very simple is holding me back here. See ya'll on the flip side.

Hi,

Your charger and battery will be fine. This 99.9% an ICOM problem.

Is your ICOM genuine? Or clone?

Have you tried updating ICOM firmware?

If you cannot progress then you can use a program called ISTA Voltage Control which simulates voltage.

Just check voltage at battery. All be ok.

I figured it out.. I wasn't hitting the CHARGED button to start the charger lol had 1 amp increase. God I feel silly. So now that it works perfect.. should I run insta p next? Insta+ seems to tell me open it for further assistance..

I think ICOM is clone. Came with Chinese HDD that I ruined right off the bat when I updated the software inside..

For anyone confused looking at this screen you can slide it to the side and click on the ECUs via the TREE diagram behind it on the main screen and it will then provide you the numbers to enter for flashing. I'm having an issue now with prerequisites and wondering if I need to load the e89 daten I have into the ECU folder for Rheingold.. I did have firewall on and windows defender. Disabled both and rebooted whole PC. Now going to extract the daten and see if it overwrites anything or if it adds something. I think I have version 60.0 and I only need 54 or above as e90s stopped receiving updates after 54? Correct me if I'm wrong here.. :P

when I try to flash it says failed for program p and failed code c (missing prerequisites for action) or very similar wording. That's from my memory.. I'm redoing procedure again fresh now from start and gonna post pic of the errors.

Still working on it and I think its a fuse or relay issue.. When I got the car the wipers would not shut off so I pulled a relay and I've since put it back but I'm digging in my old e46 for matching relays fuses. I think one might be burned or missing that is needed for the flash to not fail. Just a guess I have no real idea but makes sense and its easy to check and correct if needed. Pics of error still coming I took a break and washed and waxed the car. Vacuumed it out and cleaned up my work space. Checked all connections to the vehicle and such. Earlier I was held back by not hitting the start button on the power supply so I'm gonna focus on basics until I find something to question. Also Sense, I had read about the ICOM power errors from clones and that even with power they might not see it and how to bypass but I wasn't getting the juice down the line. I checked with another battery charger and saw it show increase as soon as it was connected then my cuz gave the 700a a good look and noticed the start button. :'D I know exactly what you were referring to and I was thinking the same thing at first.. I did check the data in files and seems like I'm up to date and have am e90 stuff loaded correctly. So the prerequisite I think is a vehicle prep thing.

But why are you flashing everything with ISTA P???

First try and fix the faults. Use ISTA+ and read fault codes. Clear the codes then read fault codes again. Then run a test plan which will suggest fixes for the remaining codes...

why wouldnt you just use NFS emergency flash???

You have all your ZB # and addresses posted in the first post. If I was approaching this situation, I would.

1. NFS Emergency flash to ALL modules, one by one, using updated daten
2. Code all modules to default.
3. ??????
4. Win.

I'm not sure why ISTA is being involved with this?

Cause I'm a noob.. I think I wasn't using INSTA+ correctly. Found a guide and pdf instructions. Reviewing both. Thanks Sensible for saying it twice. I obviously needed to hear it lol. You have been the best hangin in here with me. and while I prep that ill also install the other BMW tools and get them ready as a back up.. though have yet to find clear instructions for those tools.. haven't searched yet but I will get them..

Thank you also Anjuna for the response I really do appreciate all the advice I can get. I'm open to criticism..

Once upon a time long long ago I was installing a valve cover gasket with bond type gasket and putting it all over. Then someone handed me a service manual and said I was an idiot.. I thanked him and my cars have ran better ever since. Thing was only supposed to get 4 small dots of the bond. lol

My advice is coming from having bricked a few modules on my own trying to use ISTA to get my car up to date.

As soon as I saw the "NC" on your AC settings, i knew exactly the boat you were in.

I know you have the ICOM and ISTA and all the fancy stuff, but I would strongly suggest you take a stab using WinKFP or NFS flash.

In fact, here is my advice.

Open WinKFP, enter your ZB number and flash it. It will return that module to a "noncoded" state. That's where you'll find the NC on your AC. Once you've flashed, use NCS Expert to default code your modules. There's a short write up on this forum about that.

Cool part with WinKFP is you can update all the modules AND VIN on all modules. It has its limits though. Maybe it won't let you flash because it cannot find the module. In that case, you'll need to use NFS emergency flash.

With NFS, you'll input your address (listed in your first picture) along with the ZB number (in the same picture) and it will flash the that module. I would suggest doing this one by one with all your modules, since some are working and some are not. You are extremely fortunate to have that full list, in my opinion, since it's the ultimate map to getting everything working again. It takes a lot of guesswork out. I didn't have that when i started my adventures and eventually learned from it.

If you need some help over teamviewer, i'd be happy to help. just shoot me a PM

I figured reading codes first wasn't a bad idea and clearing them.. it told me I had multiple defective fuses.. I tested them and they were very defective. I flipping love this car more n more.. I just started in was too hot and in direct sunlight to have the power supply be safe. I'm in the shade now all setup and getting busy.. will post results as they come in. ;D

Good, yes. Start with the codes first. The codes are there to tell you about the car and what faults it has.

Fuses will need to be replaced of course. Once replaced, clear the codes again then read them again to see what's happening now.

I kept reading and clearing until only airbag code came up and said reprogram said module and then I opened INSTA P and let it do it thing in circles too and so far I've had it say replace items and then it fixes them. Kinda confusing with that but it appears to be working. It's doing fine but CID failed only so far. Pics coming but can't interrupt the flash. Though I turned off the seat heater when I noticed it and I bet I should not have done that. Why am I always touching stuff I've told myself no touching unless it asks me to from now on during the process.

To be clear I fixed the issues one by one till they no longer appeared I didn't just re read the codes. I read them MANY times and solved each issue before proceeding to INSTA P. For the guy in my shoes reading this. There is no magic. But when it said replace modules I did NOT do that and it seemed to reprogram after I said I did..

Its been on CCC A at 50 Percent for almost an hour I'm NOT going to touch anything. :P but I feel like if you do this pack a lunch and bring a pillow should be at front of list..

I fell asleep but it finished and 5 modules that I skipped did not complete. Time for NFS from here but I have music and navi.. No speedo, headlights, ABS, and others and the wipers were Still going. I disconnected the arms halfway through when it asked for me to turn of the ignition for a sec. So they weren't flopping around. Just buzzing from the motor. I'm missing outside temp sensor so I ordered that. Wil update thread and clean it for grammar and spelling.

Just wanted to get in a quick word and a HUGE thanks. Sensible I owe you and Anjuna, I'm about to owe you too after I follow those next steps. Can't thank you guys enough for the kind advice to a stranger.

I got a HOUSE

NFS stuff to come.. I'm in the process of moving over the next month but soon I'll be settled and Ive fixed almost all modules just 2 left I think. Also I built a killer desktop so I can run through and clean up this tread or make a new one and post the procedures in a clear manner so others may have a path to follow too.

I have NFS installed and working with an integrity check error (for the daten files) if that even matters.

I read Anjuna's post again and I'm going to give it a shot. Just curious should I use the Icom for this or the D/Kcan cable? its the DSC module and IDK what other module but when I loaded NFS it gave 2 ecu addresses. If that even means anything. I know how to configure for the cables BUT the Icom is a pain to setup so if its actually FINE to use the D/Kcan I'd love that ability.

Anyways, I'll be back soon any input feel free to suggest ideas or things to keep my eyes open for.

Just read through this entire thread and WOW I can't believe you have stuck with it for months. If you want to get this fixed PM BimmerGeeks. They flashed my trans the other day. All I had to do was get their cable, have a running copy of Windows, and download the software from their site. I didn't have to instal or setup anything they did it all for me/themselves over TeamViewer.

But if you feel like you almost have it figured out keep going and keep learning. You have much more patience than most!
