You need to change the VO (vehicle order) in order for NCS to see the retrofit CIC module. To do this you need to change the production date of the car.. -Mine was #0307 changed to #0909 -Add $6VA also to VO -Then you Fa-write the VO to CAS and FRM module... -Default code the CIC module which should show up in NCS after changing the production date. THen everything should be up and running with the new CIC. I then used NCSexpert to code in: -DVD in motion -Legal disclaimer disabled on startup -Fuel stop stations

I'm going to be doing the CCC -> CIC upgrade, from a 2009 model. I will be getting the CIC screen, CIC unit, cable from screen to unit, CIC plug to use/repin the CCC connector, CIC glovebox USB, and Satellite module in the trunk (2009 CIC did not have built in Sat radio from what I read, and this vehicle came equipped with sat nav. My 2008 has the provisions/prep for sat nav, so should be plug/play). I believe I have everything I need above. After all these years, is the emulator still the better option over FSC or script activation? I just want navi, sat nav (if possible), back up camera. I may want a combox in the future. I found this on ebay, which emulates backup camera and CIC (I plan to buy a trunk handle camera w/ dynamic lines). Here is the link to the emulator, from Autofocustech: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/CIC-Retrofit...53.m1438.l2649 Thanks in advance. Last edited by l2iceman; 02-21-2020 at 10:07 AM.. |

I might be doing this too. I thought plug re-pin is not needed when using such emulator, I thought the purpose of that harness is to plug between CCC plug and CIC unit with no extra wiring, plug and play?
Actually it's probably the power cable for screen, so that would make sense. Also I'm so undecided between upgrading from CCC to CIC or getting Android screen and keeping main CCC unit. Cost seems similar.

Bump - anybody able to chime in? Here's the emulator I found:
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/CIC-Retrofit...-/282645470493 Would i just plug this in and he good to go? Or would I still need to do coding for cic? I know I need to code for the back up camera, but is coding required for cic with an emulator? |

Yes you need to code in the CIC, you also need to "clean" flash the CIC so it knows what options you have in your car. But it's not that hard, 10min work with kdcan cable.
You can get the same emulator on aliexpress for around $50. Do you have PDC? I've read the camera emulator could be a bit finnicky at times. |

So just to clarify: Once installed with emulator, I just code the vehicle to recognize the cic. As for map updates, this is something I can do as well with an emulator installed? I read about generating fsc, etc. So my question is whether or not having an emulator limits me from doing updates in the future. Ans I do have pdc, the emulator link I posted above does back up camera along with navi, etc, so I believe I just need to code and should be good to go. |

I ended up script activating. I used fs tool to put the unit in check fsc mode, allowing me to update maps to 2020 with a generated fsc code.
Next step is to connect the sat radio module in the trunk and hope it works (i have sat prep, already coded vo/cic to show sat radio menu option, and coded exbox for SDARS). I also ordered a reverse camera emulator off Ali Express, and a camera off ebay, so tthat'll be a month away. But since I'm pretty much home 24/7 with the pandemic going on, I'll have time here and there to work on the car. |

Look up the DIY install video on YouTube by BMW Fanatic. I followed this and he clearly shows the re pin steps. Once you watch, you'll understand. |

Very cool that this can be made to work but...
Why bother when you can just get an android head unit? Then you have full google maps, spotify, pandora, etc. it is a couple hundred bucks more but i have had good luck with both my e90 non idrive and my e70 CCC. I bet by the time you buy a CIC screen and the extra parts and spend the time it isn't any cheaper than full android. -Rich

Otherwise I completely agree, the Android unit is a better option. As for script activate, I didn't do it, I had a local coder do it. I learned about fs tool after the fact as I was trying to update maps. |

Aux quality usually depends on the source device and its connection. AUX is usually much better than bluetooth with good connections... Most high end home audio gear still doesn't use true balanced connections. RCA cables for amplifiers are essentially the same as AUX and they don't have audio quality issues as long as they are decent cables and not 30ft runs. -Rich
