Your life is pretty much over, start shopping for a tombstone. Get real, this is hardly something to stress over. Buy an after market Nav if it bothers you so much. Pretty sure TomTom's or Garmin have this function rolled out already.

so what happens if the BMW assist module under the trunk lining suddenly "breaks" while it's under warranty? do they replace it with the new superseded part?

No big deal especially after the norvelty wears out.
Neat feature for sure, but if it was a few hundred dollars to retrofit would you do it? If no they forget it. If yes, maybe, and just maybe it is something. You know, after using it a few times you will get bored and probably rarely use it. Just print the infor or write it down and go with it to the car and enter it in the GPS. Lets be practical here... Its kind of like comfort access. I have it, love it, but if my car didn't have it would I even care? Probably not. Would I have waited a month or so to get CA on my car? No. I got it because it was there then and I thought it was neat. Love it by the way, but still would not wait a month if I had to do it over. Its just not that important.

if they have to make multiple additions/updates every few months, that's poor planning and product execution. That'll also alienate their customers as the products they purchased have just lost intrinsic and extrinsic values.
