So I just did this to my 07 328i over the weekend and was also concerned with highway drone and/or that coffee can muffler effect that makes your neighbors hate you and their kids want to race you.

I installed the AA headers with the BPC tune (stage 2) and an aFe airbox on the 3 stage intake and I have to say I think I'm getting more noise from the intake side of the engine. Inside the car you will be aware of a new exhaust note but I don't find it intrusive or annoying - and I'm old and grumpy!
When you decide it's time to enjoy the fruits of your investment and the red mist descends, it will SCREAM like a mid nineties f1 car as the BPC tune delivers uninterrupted power all the way to the higher redline... It's SO good. Do it.
But then you flop the shifter back over to normal AT mode and it's just your car again.
I read and read and changed my mind weekly for months about this, but now that I've done it I'm very pleased with it and glad I did it.

that is what I been saying for a while, headers are not loud at all. K and N filter makes more noise below 4k , it only gets louder above 5000 rpm and that is with 3 stage intake and disa valves screaming at the sametime

Keep in mind the stock exhaust sounds is crap , so this gets you what the car should've sound it stock

I had to add a k and n filter and removed the charcoal filter to improve the sound .

I m even tempted to do the PE mod , but I think that may attract the wrong attention
The stock exhaust system sounds truly great with a high flow muffler (like 135i PE exhaust, which is only the performance muffler) and primary or secondaries deleted. Amazing sound with the factory resonator!

When I do finally pull the trigger (and they're in stock) I'll likely add a AA Gen 2 rear exhaust along with the headers.

At the moment the exhaust mod is on hold ... currently looking to parlay the funds towards an X5 3.0si (N52 ... of course will add a BPC tune).

You again?

Nice try on changing your cars to 535 and 328..

Anyhow, 135i PE includes resonator delete.

Its the 128i PE that is muffler only.

Lol, ah ok thanks for the info.

My perfect exhaust setup would be either:

1. Supersprint catless headers > secondaries and resonator intact > 128i PE muffler

OR

2. Secondary cat delete > res intact > custom fabricated muffler that has Y-pipe welded to two resonators with the dual tips going out the other side.
