I did have the same thing happen on my E46. It was the same type of mechanism. I did manage to rig it up to work again but the way I had done it, the spring bar wasn't in the original place so it took a lot of force to press the opener to open the lid. better than nothing.

Hoper that's too much! Best place to store keys or swipe cards (for car park access) etc.
If you work out a fix mate, please share. It will be very useful
