I have warranty on mine and mine's been at the dealership every 2 months this year so far with something wrong with it. Mine's up for renewal in November so awaiting the quote! I think I will get my money's worth though with the reliability of my car so far... 335d 30k miles and used only a couple of times per week, the most unreliable BMW I've owned so far!

That's a real shame! But good job you got the warranty.

Do they provide a courtesy car whilst your car is in for repairs or is that something only included with the extra assistance package/option on the warranty?

Yes courtesy car every time. I used to get an F series touring, then slowly it downgraded each time. My cars there as we speak and currently I have a Mini loan car sat on the drive I think ill consider renewing when it comes to it, I think mine will be about £70 a month, but I won't know until they send the letter, how much is yours?

That's good!

I didn't think they would give a courtesy car!

My car is a 2008 135i (N54) with 63K. I am paying £59/month with a £250 excess and no emergency cover.

Quite reasonable I thought. Seeing as my first month of ownership cost me over £1000 in parts

That excess is quite high. Mines just had new rear window regulators because the windows kept getting stuck down. Bits like that are probably not worth getting the warranty for, but I think I might renew and call it a "turbo/DPF insurance"!

Lifted straight off the other forum I’m a member off as it was much easier than typing all out again:

Had the car into the dealers earlier this week for routine brake fluid service and as per all maintenance activities these days they started with the CITNOW inspection (along with its little video). Brake service perfectly fine but the service rep then informs me the flexi joint on the exhaust has a crack (as shown in the video) and will need replacing soon as it would also fail next MOT if still the same July 18.

Not a problem I thought can’t be more than a few quid for the joint....nope BMW in their infinite wisdom have it in the same “forward exhaust section” as the catalytic converter (crap design) and the rep then says it wouldn’t be covered under warranty as there’s nothing wrong with the cat but here’s a quote... £1403 for replacement as I’d have to buy the cat!

Now at this point my mind was visualising a punch to the face however given I have comprehensive warranty I enquire if the cat had gone and was being replaced under warranty how much would I be charged separate for the flexi joint given it’s not covered. Ahhh well it’s all one piece and attached to the cat so nothing. After highlighting the reverse logic he was still adamant it wouldn’t be covered.

Wanting to keep the dealers on side at this point I extracted to home and had a more sensible conversation direct with the BMW warranty department and explained that actually it’s impossible to replace one without the other...the cat is the single part covered on the exhaust under the warranty and in reality what the dealer should have told me is I need a new “front exhaust section”. Warranty agreed that made sense and are now in contact with the dealer. I had to go back in so they could redo the video showing the whole exhaust and pointing out the sections and join areas to send to the warranty team.

Long story but I’m not paying for something when warranty covers (especially as warranty actually agree without putting up a fight this time) and it’s not my fault the designers forgot to put a simple joint in.

For those with diesel it’s slightly different because of the DPF and there is an official repair kit for them but nothing for those of us with petrol.

So just waiting to be called back in for the new section to be fitted and will cost me the excess of £100 which would’ve been roughly the same as a 3rd party flexi joint cut out and welded back in by the time labour was added; but that wouldn’t have got me a new cat for free

UPDATE

Just had confirmation from dealer that warranty is replacing the “front exhaust section” and is booked in for work next Wednesday. That’s a healthy saving of £1303 for taking the time to interact with the claims team direct after dealer suggesting not covered and not bothering to call themselves.

So don’t always think the dealer has the last say as BMW is a big organisation and their own warranty and strange work practices at times along with non-perfect design will see them out of pocket not me. I reckon in the coming months the monthly warranty cost will go up a quid but that’s perfectly fine with me.

BMW dealers are the worst thing about the excellent Allianz warranty!!! They cheap out and cut corners then act like they are doing you a favour when warranty bends their arms.

Well done for pushing it.

jwilalex that's a great good news story!

It's a shame that BMW behave like this, as it ultimately makes the warranty policy look bad to those who don't go to the efforts you did!

Thats good that you can phone the warranty company directly and deal with them, and not just be fobbed off by the dealer.

They are very good to deal with and very fair, in my experience.

The shytner dealer on the other hand lacks basic diagnostic skills, and is not willing to do the job properly. Not much different to kwikfit IMO.

Am trying a different brand of dealer next time otherwise I'm going to either sell my car or DIY it which means I cancel the excellent warranty either way. Tempted to tell BMW UK and Allianz exactly why too.

I think the reason they play dumb with diags is because its a cash cow for them maybe? Taking 3 hours to diagnose a problem most can diagnose in an hour or less makes them easy money.

Out of interest, has anyone had any luck with injectors under Allianz warranty? They say they are excluded on the Ts&Cs but I am seeing posts a lot where people are saying they were done under warranty?

Unless its a new thing that they are excluded.

It's amazing how much it varies dealer to dealer.
I would look at trying a different dealer and see how you get on.

Mine is frustrating at times, but seem to be quite good when it comes to warranty work and diagnostics.

I had a full set of n53 injectors but only 3 plugs and 3 coil packs under the fully comp warranty. The 3 coil packs and plugs was annoying and I'm quite sure the warranty would have paid out but the dealer had the car for 5 days replacing an injector at a time so I was glad to get it back in the end!!

Sounds like a right ballache!

It's strange because the warranty Ts&Cs say the following:

"Fuel system: Fuel injection pump, pump drive gear, lift pump, fuel pump relay, fuel system electronic control unit, solenoids, throttle potentiometer, idle control valve and fuel pressure regulators. (Excluding fuel injectors/glow plugs)"

The fully comp warranty says that? Wow I was lucky then. Doesn't sound very fully comp either.

Edit..

What are you looking at to get that wording above?

I don't have the fully comp policy booklet to hand but the website says:

"Comprehensive Insured Warranty covers all mechanical and electrical components of your vehicle for defects - except the items listed below:

All exhaust components (except catalytic converter)
All service items which will require periodic replacement
Any item that has worn out which has covered more than 100,000 miles
Auxiliary drive belts
Batteries - including BMW i3 and BMW i8 high voltage and auxiliary batteries
Brake and clutch facings
Bulbs and fuses
Channels and guides
Cleaning or adjustment of any component/carbon/soot buildup
Coolant and fuel hoses
Discs and drums
Glass
Handles, hinges and check straps
Trim, upholstery and cosmetic finishes
Wheels and tyres
Wiper blades and arms
Weather strips and seals"

Nothing about injectors...

I am going off the warranty booklet they sent me at the start of the month.

I would imagine "All service items which will require periodic replacement" is an exact definition of a fuel injector? They are not due every service, but they do require replacement?

The below link has the handbook:

https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Start

Under "Download our Policy Handbook". And I got that quote from page 18 - Fuel system.

I am happy to hear that people have had them done under warranty though!

Could you advise if you had them done under the AUC warranty or just the Allianz/Mondial warranty?

Cheers

That wording is under the named component cover heading

Yes I had injectors replaced under Allianz/Mondial comp warranty and not AUC.

Yes you are right, it is under named component cover,

So it says:

Named Components:

Fuel System.... (excluding injectors).

But clearly it is wrong or you are very lucky (hopefully the first) as I suspect one of mine is leaking.

My car falls into the range of N54 cars that had a "Quality Enhancement" check for the injectors (not an official recall).

So need to see if 1, it was included in the handful of cars, and 2, if it has already been done.

Thought we were talking about fully comp ? "Fully comp" DOES cover injectors so I was not lucky, it was covered. "Named component" is a LOWER level of cover and does not cover injectors.
