Actually, my car is production 12/07 and has a slight ticking metallic noise at start up only. Once the car is warmed up i believe that the noise dissapears. I think that maybe the tickign noise is normal for the waste gate to try to warm up the turbos right after start up but goes away later (unless this is a premature sign of failure ). If the ticking persists and occurs when the engine is warmed up and upon deacceleration as well, then you might have a wastegate actuator in need of being replaced...

Damn, Ive experienced both the HPFP issue and now this.

My car is at the shop. The Service Advisor said that there is abulletin out, they had some programming to do, and if that didnt fix it then they would replace the actuator.

WTF? Programming? Anyone know what they are talking about?

I noticed a couple months ago, that a 335i loaner had a lot more get up and go then mine did, and asked about it. I thought nothing of the noise until I asked the Shop Foreman to look into it.

If the actuator gets bad enough, i bet the low end performance might be hurt..

The new programming is gonna be the 29.2+ program, which from what i hear holds the wastegate's open in a different way where they won't rattle, but isn't really a good fix or the right way to do it, but bmw chooses this path. Changing out the actuators for new ones is the best fix.

29.2 sucks... anyone should hold out for 32.1 or better yet: 32.1 + new actuators.

note if i were pre 29.2 i would want to keep my software as is.

My poor car has been suffering the rattling wastegate issue from the start, brought into service twice, some part (actuators) got replaced and updated with 29.2... after driving awhile, rattling is back, exhaust and engine are noisier and has ticking sound.. it's an 05/07 production. from what i read on here, its quite common then, I am not going crazy thank god..
Dealer replaced xhaust clamps and have me bring back the car this Friday for field engineer to look at.. I hope they fix it this time.. or at least make it more enjoyable to drive.. I love the turbo power, just very bothered by the noise..

Garage List
mine ticks on startup, or randomly while idling if ive gone on a lot of short drives and turn off on a lot. Believe that is normal for this engine though. Doesnt sound like that video clanking around. Just a metallic tick on idle, that goes away after the car gets warmed up.

Anyone know who I can complain to, my car is at 46K miles, and they are not going to replace the actuators because upgradig the software apparently fixes faulty acutators.

So the dealer is replacing both wastegates and the actuators, and upgrading the software to 32.1

Does anyone know what all 32.1 is supposed to fix?

DAM that sounds like my car...

Im having same issues. Idle is somewhat hard sometimes and i hear that circular ticking often like that rattle.

When i go WOT i get limp mode with a SES light. Now the SES light doesnt turn off. Its either the fuel pump or wastegate is my guess.

Also when i get gas the pump stops in the middle like my tanks full.

Hope you get your problems fixed and keep us updated.
