Leased. When the lease is up, I will either purchase it outright, or jump into a new 535i depending on how good the new one's look.

alot of people had good luck with the b5 s4; just as difficult to work with motor; except audi couldn't tell if you chipped it. But man all the models i took a look at (allroads too) the tiptronics were slipping. oil coming out one turbo or another. REAL PITA to work on the turbo or anything for that matter. exotic motor (bi-turbo) aftermarket warranty issues.
It seems that it would be more logical to re-lease a new car. while the power is cool and all ; really fun; bmw surely can make a all motor car make 300hp and perhaps do some fancy mpg improvements i'd probably be happier owning all motor. also depends on the economy too. if the dollar keeps tanking we'll be leasing the same (newer) 3 series for a grand a month. I remember when i was reading a newspaper many many moons ago i saw a ad for a bentley or rolls and it said like $1200/month starting lease payments and i laughed at that saying no way never no how.

As the years wore on the dealers were getting good at detecting things. Heck, they even starting looking for scrapes on the hold down clip which would trigger additional investigation. And not to further derail, I purchased mine, no lease here as I will probably hang onto it for a while (at least I keep telling myself that). |

Ive modded every leased car Ive had. I even turned my 93ZTT in off lease with skyline brakes and stage 2 chip. I bought my m3 off lease but that was because I dumped so much money into it and didnt feel like taking it all off to stock.
That being said, I wouldnt own the e90 after lease. I dont trust this car being BMW's first turbo in 20+ yrs. Plus I really wouldnt want to own another BMW(or any car that isnt a Honda or Toyota) after the warranty is expired.

I've leased, I'm on what should be about 17 more months left on my lease. I have no idea whether or not I'm going to lease again or purchase. I'm looking at the options of another e46 m3 -- slightly used, vs my car slightly used. m3 + AA SC = win!
Alot of you guys that purchased the pre 29.2 ecu update, you should just tell your dealer to revert back to your old software, YOU own the car (lease or purchase) and YOU are responsible for what happens to the car aside from it being a bmw defect/problem or a problem that happens on at the dealers premises (sp?). Either way I don't understand the issues with tuning and what not. I purchased the JB2, and I've had the SSTT, both I've ran -- taken it to the dealer and I have not had any problems. I've sold both since, and I am awaiting to get a complete PNP bmw performance chip. They have never given me a headache and have never asked me to remove anyting from my car. when something breaks, I just leave it at the dealer while I'm at work, and its fixed the same day unless they need to order parts or they want to be a hardass about fixing minor details. I have a bov as well, I'm going on my third one (different brands) as we speak. I have a custom audio setup in my trunk, body mods etc. Wheels, I'm just not dropped -- yet. I dont have h/e mods, but thats only because I am tired of having loud cars (coming from turbo'd and stock hondas and a eisenmann e36) and don't want to attract attention more than I am already. |

+1 My last E46 M3, literally a month after my warranty was up, my SMG hydraulic pump went out...ended up costing me like 2200 to fix. After this experience, I would never want to own a beemer after the warranty is up.
