You can get ista-p or use ncsexpert. Dde updating with k+dcan is fine just make sure you have a strong battery charger, or 2 in parallel. Or if you have a second car, keep it running with jumper cables to the bmw.
Yep update the DDE with no issues had battery on charger whole time. Interesting to see what happens after CBU.

Zero-adaption setting adjusts for the inevitable variance in the injectors - the manufacturing process results in each injector being just a bit different than another. The DDE uses the zero-adaption to adjust the injector opening pulses to inject the correct amount of fuel for each firing.
How would a simple user do something like this? If I had the ITSA software and a laptop, is that something I could do myself?

try running a double shot of injector cleaner..

i had a similar issue and someone suggested it to me because it worked for them..

i am suggesting it to you because it also worked for me, just passing it along.

FWIW when i had my issue it took a few tanks before it went away. i changed my fueling station to Chevron and used a strong shot of cleaner and followed with a few tanks of normal. car has been fine for 10k miles

So i got my car back from the CBU cleaning and I am getting a error code again for my number 3 injector and now an additional code for 4D16 SCR Efficiency!!

This car is driving me crazy!!!

After replacing the MAF Sensor, 2 fuel injectors, CBU cleaning and front NOX sensor I still have these issues.

Starting to think my root cause is my DDE control unit as everYtime i fix something another code comes up to take its place. My DDE has software version 1037550612 is this the most recent version?

What do you think I should do next?

Did they reset all adaptations?

Yes all adaptions reset. Have one week before my need to complete the emissions test. Besides buying a new control unit or catalytic converter I dont know what else to do with this car.

Sorry, should have asked before, was the new injector registered in DDE? As last ditch effort, run a tankful double dosed with injector cleaner, unless you have already done so.

Which error code on the injector?

I'm really starting to wonder if the DDE is a culprit for a lot of unexcessary spending on other part replacements.

The error code for the injector is 4AF6. I was reading that after the CBU cleaning the increment wheel adaption needs to be reset so I just did it and will test tonight on way home and hopefully the codes go away.

If not then I will take the car to BMW to have the DDE flashed with the latest software and hopefully this will solve the problem.

Wish me luck!!

Good luck, look for report back. I think the CBU and software upgrade resolved the code I was getting like that. Now I'm still battling the smoothness control codes, MAF codes, and 4D16.

My emissions test is in 2 months.

The increment wheel adjustment fixed my 4AF6 code after the CBU Cleaning.

Still have the 4D16 SCR efficiency code. Hopefully after the programming of the ECU,s today I will have a better idea.

So the programming of the DDE did not help with the 4D16 Efficiency code. Had to install 2 new NOX Sensors and now all systems are running fine.

Thanks for following up. The Nox sensors were covered by BMWs extended warranty I presume? How many miles since fixed?

No extended warranty for us Canadians!!! They charge us more for the same card and in the end we get less respect from BMW.

Put on almost a 1000 miles with no recurrence so hopefully this will be the last of it.

Doh. Well at least they decided to replace them. Did they show bad readings? I'm finding it hard to think about going to the dealer to see if they will be replaced under the extended warranty as I bet the won't voluntarily do it unless they have a specific SES code. Given all these codes don't point to one thing, they will just peel back the onion on my dime before they get to their obligation.

They said the 4D16 code is related to the NOX sensors because they are the old version. The dealer wanted $2800 CDN for 2 sensors installed and they said BMW Canada would not pay for them on warranty.I bought both sensors in the U.S for $1600 CDN and installed them myself and now the code is gone.

Love the car but this will be my last BMW as they dont treat all their customers fair.

Bummer. Maybe emissions standard differences between countries meant BMW NA didn't have to warranty them for Canada just the US.

This car has me definitely reconsidering any BMWs in my near future as well.

There are plenty of used NOx sensors around for cheap.

Seems like a risky part to buy used.
