Or what about the old trick to keep a junky $50 Whistler unit in the glove box, and when they pull you over, happily hand it over instead of the V1 under your seat!

I don't live out there, so maybe I'm missing something about how it would work. But if the cop pulls you over on suspicion, and you do have an RD that you were using, and he is going to search your car to see if he can find one, aren't you better off just owning up to it and being honest and saying you had one? Then handing over the crappy unit. You can try to play dumb or something and say you didn't know it was illegal?
How is that worse than what you're suggesting, which I'm assuming is to deny having one? What are you suggesting as a solution, anyway? |

well I had my V1 confiscated before, but it wasn't hidden, it was on my windshield... they just took it away and gave me a ticket (can't remember the amount, it was 3 years ago, somewhere in $2xx range)... i went to court, told judge that it was a present from my family are in states and it was legal there (had to find a state where it's legal to sound more believable), so therefore I had no idea it was illegal here... she reduced that ticket to like $70 and that was it...

You will get a ticket money and I think demerit points. When an insurance company looks, and see you have a radar detector, your premiums will get jacked. I guess it goes into my pockets....the Popo need to comply with a different set of rules to search your body (and clothing). And if you don't look a gansta, the police will also be less inclined

I think it's actually pretty simple. If an officer sees or detects the detector, you're going to lose it. If you hide it, odds are he'll fine you too. Whether it's in an envelope or in your butt; he'll find a way to get it.
