335's here us a 336x22 rotor in the rear, part#34216855004... the 328 E91 (2006-2011) use a 300x20 rotor in rear, part # 34216864901... the BMW performance brake kit needs at least a 324mm rotor for the caliper and pad to make full contact. This it is not as easy as pulling a 335 part number and tossing it on, while in theory it would fit if you were retro fitting 335 brakes, but these performance brakes are not direct bolt-ons to anything in the parts catalog for the US e91. Thus why we have to get creative and pull parts numbers from other models. At this point I have everything I need except the rear, but am planning on trying the 324x22, #34216795755 as has been discussed before. I am hoping to get these installed late September or early October and will report back. |

OK, I can now confirm that it is possible to get these brakes installed and 100% working on these cars and I am happy to say the following parts were a direct bolt on. The only modifications are in the front, i.e. caliper bracket and dust shield and the rears needed no modifications.
Here are the parts I used, as a reminder this was a 2011 (LCI) E91 328 Xdrive: • Front Driver Side 6-piston Caliper - 34116786741 • Front Passenger Side 6-Piston Caliper - 34116786742 • Rear Left Caliper - 34216786743 • Rear Right Caliper –34216786744 • Front RedStuff Performance Brake Pad DP31995C • Rear RedStuff Performance Brake Pad DP31996C • Exact-Fit Stainless Steel Brake Lines - Complete Kit ES#517965 • Front Cross Drilled & Slotted Brake Rotors - Pair (338x26) 34116786392 • Rear Brake Rotors - Pair (324x22) 34216795755 • Stainless Brake Rotor Set Screw – x4 • RBF 600 Racing Brake Fluid - 500mL x1 As discussed the fronts bolted right on, but we needed to either shave some material off a knuckle on the spindle or remove material from the caliper bracket. I chose to do the later so as not to modify the car. The only issue we have both front and rear was with the brake fluid hardlines to the reservoir had rusted and we were afraid to break them trying to break the bolt loose, so did not install the steel brake lines at this point. I plan on ordering new hardlines to the reservoir and will address that later. The rears using the 34216795755 rotors was a direct bolt on and we retained parking brake. After doing about a half dozen emergency stops from 50mph we have seated the brakes, but I still need to drive the car alittle more to be sure. My intial evaluation is that they bite really nicely, but the pedal travel has increased which I was hoping would not. This is something I am hoping we can address or will resolve itself as the system is used. All in all, a worthy upgrade for both performance and cosmetics. I didn't think I'd like the Phoenix Yellow calipers but they actually look right on this car....now to figure out what wheels to get that will show them off. I've started a build log on this car here: https://www.e90post.com/forums/newre...eply&t=1550494 |
