Just hook up hand vacuum pump to theconnection on the vacuum line behind the airbox and test by visually looking for it opening. Then test with engine at idle to see if there is vacuum in the line. There should not be any. That will test the pressure converter. Also test system vacuum at idle pre and post the accumulator box.
Thanks for the advice man!

I had BMW do the recall for the driveshaft and airbags. I asked them to look into my lack of acceleration and received this back:

R&I both turbocharger pressure pipes. Found high pressure stage

(small turbo) impeller wheel has seized/sheared. Also found

turbocharger intake tube is split and leaking air. Recommend

to replace both turbochargers with all vacuum lines.

Recommend to replace primary EGR cooler with all associated

hardware.

Not sure what to do. Any advice would be welcome. Probably not worth anything trade in as it is fucked...the EGR is cracked which I knew about.

Best place to buy a stock turbo charger? I really am not looking forward to swapping them out. I'm in the middle of a turbo swap on my e92 and it's a bitch.

Might be a few folks here with spare turbos. If you decide to sell, I may be interested in a fixer, if options and condition of car are solid

Good luck either way you decide to go

It is in good shape. Would you pay cash? I'm leaning towards fixing it myself at this point...feel free to PM me an offer. Paint is what you would expect for 125k.

Is it worth going through the trouble of the install with a used turbo? I guess if I get a low mileage one it should be ok. Time to search how to prime the turbo probably just disconnect the injectors I imagine and crank it.

Fing bmws and blown turbos.

If you fix the intercooler hose and the cracked egr, that could very well be the cause of no boost.
A cracked egr will reduce your exhaust pressure to drive the turbines. A split intercooler hose will leak a lot of boost. (In some cars it can kill a turbo by overspeeding it but limp mode is there to prevent things like that!)

The dealer could be lying about the hp turbo... I'm not sure how you can reach it to look at it so easily... Makes me think they pulled it out of their arse...

To inspect a small turbo, you need to remove it. And to remove it you would be reaplacing all vacuum lines as well. And what is wrong with a large turbo. No mention of issues yet they want to replace large as well. Something fishy.

Same happens with the vw tdi. Dealers couldn't fix low boost limp mode which was vacuum or a stuck actuator and would just replace the turbo.

Torgus, I might be having a similar problem to yours except mine comes and goes... Sometimes I’ll hold boost and other times wastegate will open early... does your x5 sound like this?

I can also hook up the torque pro app and show boost psi or other parameters as well if that’ll help...

Edit:

Found problem... vacuum hose going to low pressure turbo wastegate expanded and fell off the nipple of the wastegate.
