He didn't want the car "washed by the dealer". As for waxing, you can wax/seal a new car right from the dealer. The temps in which the paint is baked at factory are much higher than the temps used in standard bodyshops, which leave the paint un-cured and require 60-90 days at times to fully cure.

Do you heat the leather with a hairdryer or other device prior to applying the leather care product?

No... I use my steamer at times when cleaning leather, which heats it up, but in this case I applied directly to the grain, let it sit, then buffed off any remaining residue off with a dry MF.
