The fact I can't delete the emissions in MA I what has me worried. I have to basically pay the BMW price to fix the shit. If you can do the deletes and are going to, it seems like an awesome ride. More low end tq that an N54 could dream of making. Plenty of fun to hoon around town in given the instant low end tq, pull down cars on the highway, or cruise and get 40+ mpg almost double the mpg of every sedan around you that has 1/2 or 1/3 the power that are gasoline powered. Turbo diesel ftw if you can delete emissions. With xHP you can also flash the trans and make it shift significantly faster. Flash it via your android app. Multiple levels of flashing depending on your goals.

I had GTI for almost 3 years. Put on about 36k miles. My daily commute is about 70 miles. Even in rush hour traffic, we were averaging 31mpg. The only thing that we complained about was that the car was not very comfortable on the longer drives (when sitting for more than 2 hours), but then again, I am a big guy. Never had any issues with it. If you decide to get a used one, look to buy one from DC area as there are so many around here and prices are way cheaper than in FL. Even thou new GTI offers amazing warranty and its almost worth the premium. GTI got traded for 2015 X5 Diesel. I can't stress enough how fuel efficient that behemoth is. On my semi-eco run, I managed 41MPG over 65 miles. It's very luxurious, handles nice and it's way more relaxing to drive. When pushed, it can move effortlessly. During the daily commute, we average about 33MPG (GTI was only 31). When we were shopping around, we looked at 535d. A lot of people don't know they even exit. They were sold for only few years (i think from 2014 to 2017) and many are already in low 20's with low miles. People report getting over 40mpg on regular commute, which doesn't surprise me at all considering how fuel efficient mine is. They are comfortable and properly quick. Check out the work BPC did on this one: https://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1450938 Good luck with everything. I know this entire ordeal can be very very frustrating. Here is one not far from you. Still under warranty Last edited by W37V; 10-01-2018 at 07:43 PM.. |

Sorry to hear man, you had a nicely set up 328, too.
But holy shit, those tuned 335d power curves look like that would be in insane fucking daily. Someone buy one and do a damn 6speed swap!

I was just about to do some more stuff to it, but things happen. My loss is someone else's gain (like the insurance company and whoever gets the chassis)

Sorry to hear it! Always sucks to lose a car you care about.
Have you talked to them about buying it back? I bought back a "totalled" car once for $1000 and then sold it to a guy for $3000 two days later, he towed it out of the body shop and everything, easiest money I've ever made. I'm sure there are some guys around here that would be interested in an M Sport with mods... you have nearly two grand in parts sitting on that car!

Agreed, I'm just saying that sometimes it's as easy as just finding out what the insurance company wants for it. They'll usually give you a few days to think about it, during which time you can try to find someone that wants to buy the entire car as it sits. The difference between what you sell it for and what you pay the insurance company for it is easy profit. But yeah, time is time... we don't always have much at all!

Usually you pay them the asking price, they release it with a salvage title. You may have to fix the damage and take it to the DMV to get a rebuilt title to be able to license it, or you can keep the salvage title if you plan on tracking the car only and not driving it on the roads. You won't be able to insure it except for liability only. At least based off a previous experience I had, that is how it works.

Bob@BPC You might be hearing from me again. I like the torque, but I wish the power curve was more...sporty.
The N55 with EWG is a pretty neat motor, but it's no N52...and the F22 is definitely not an E92. |

Mind extrapolating a bit? What do you like and not like?
Got any pics My 14 year old son has his eyes fixed on my e92 so I might be shopping again in a couple years. The only car I drove and really enjoyed more than my e92 was a M2 Manual but they really seem like a poor value. I’ll likely be going into a camaro SS1LE if I get comfortable passing down the e92 to him, not that I really loved the camaro when I drove it but the cost to performance is much better than the M2. |

It didn't translate to the M235i, which is still a great car, but spending time in it, doesn't feel as special. I'll post pictures tonight, but it's a 6 speed (I flew out of state to buy it and had to drive it back - they are pretty damn rare) but I hear the ZF auto is nice. But the car is...weird. The wheel (stock) are ugly, and worse yet, the offsets are silly, making finding wheels difficult. The interior is "newer" than my E92 Msport, but it feels cheaper. IE no dual zone control for climate control, the HiFi stereo (I had a HK on the E92) is CRAP. Literally one of the worst I've heard in a car in a while, regardless of price. The idrive is better, but why no Apple Car play? (or maybe I can't find it) and the seat/Seat position seems...off. It's almost too close to the dash. It drives well though - MASSIVE amounts of torque, so much torque I literally bend reality around the car when I hammer it in any gear lower than 6th.... Did I mention it has torque? Oh, and you don't need to downshift, at all. Ever. The fuel economy mode has it alerting the driver to upshift at 1800RPM. I often leave it in 6th gear around town, only bothering to downshift at a stop light. The engine is smooth enough especially at lower engine speeds, but as it gets up in the RPM range, it becomes a little more harsh, lacking that N52 smoothness I've come to enjoy for 5 years...It also sounds like a vacuum cleaner - probably symbolizing all the soul and character Turbochargers sucked from these cars. But you can't think like that, because this thing absolutely RIPS. It's SO powerful, it's SO quick - I have barely brought it to redline because your full throttle acceleration - in any gear - gets you in trouble instantly. Until recently (like...last night) the car literally would upset the chassis at WOT. It would cause the TC to go crazy and the car would start to almost fishtail/shimmy - while already doing 30-40mph. I thought there must be something wrong with the car, but it seems to be a common theme. (more on this later) ------- It has the adaptive suspension with M mode, so while I commute to work, I put it in Eco mode and see how well I do, which doesn't last long. It dulls the throttle response to nothing and softens the suspension (which is already soft) to make the car wallow. Switching it to comfort will adapt the shocks to make them more "compliant" and keeps the throttle response as "normal" - just don't bother with this mode at all. Hard acceleration in either mode cause the car to feel like Vin Diesel's Challenger in Fast and The Furious, squatting the rear and making it feel like it will step out (or just make you look like a Zig zaging idiot) The sport Mode/Sport + mode should be the "default" on this car (comfort is the default mode) and it should have a mode higher that gets even more aggressive. The throttle is sharper and the shocks stiffen up, minimizing the "overloading the chassis" feeling under hard acceleration. *****Quick note on this - I found my rear tires were over inflated (38psi vs 31psi) and this seemed to fix that issue******* The car leans less in corners, it feels sportier and sounds throatier (it has a BMW performance exhaust, and it combined with the Sport mode causes burbles) However the car feels like a pogo due to the smaller wheelbase and under-damped rear shocks. The rear end bounces, and you can really feel that this car needs an LSD AND better shocks. It's certainly better than the E92, but I feel they really missed the boat here on making the car a little bit more sporty. Don't get me wrong - I actually REALLY like the car. In fact, I can't see myself in any other BMW outside of a MSport F30 or a M2/3/4 - but it just feels softer than what I expected, and looks and feels very odd. Is this what 1 series drivers felt like? |

I’m with you! I drove the M2, 3, 4, and 6 many times even had the 2 and 6 over 145mph at track events. I have spent a good amount of time behind the wheel of all of them because friends and clients own/owned them. The only modern BMW I liked more than my N/A e92 and that I seriously desired was the M2. It just felt “light” and “alive” from behind the wheel. Great car!

You need to watch the JB4 stuff. I really feel like some of the maps and tunes available for the turbo motors are just too aggressive for stock equipment. I've looked at the N54 compressor curves and it's running like 190,000 RPMs with stock tunes. At 18 PSI they must be running well north of 210,000 RPMs. Not sure about the single N55 unit but it appears to have less capacity than the Twins in the N54. Ya, look at these RPMs and think about oils and operating temperatures. Let it warm up before getting into the throttle. |
