A similar sort of idea worked in "Iron Eagle."

I always wondered why they called it that with F-16s being the main character. I guess Iron falcon doesn't/didn't have the same ring to it.

I guess we now know there isn't any safety in place that requires the aircraft to be airborne to operate the weapon systems.
