Dinan getting V81 out the door for August, and frankly possibly JB3, will pale if Conforti launches the Sharks. So yeah, August could be a BIG BIG month.

When was V3 DOMINATING the 335 market anyway? About 2 years ago maybe.
Maybe now they are dominating the blown engine market

Sorry for sounding like a dumb a$$, but does this mean that the current stage 2 flash is now smog legal or will there be an updated 50 state certified version?

Thanks ybiz for the excellent information.
I've now had my Stage 1 tune for about six weeks now and love it. I'll add that it took about three weeks for it to fully adapt. I was happy with it the day I had it reflashed, but it drives even faster now. |

they just have to have the software approved by C.A.R.B. just like neuspeed does to have their badge. pretty much anything CARB exempt is 50 state epa valid as well. the same software sold before very well could have been what was tested and approved so that would make installing the software on a street-driven car legal. they had to do this. its very expensive but installing non-epa compliant mods on a street-driven car is a pretty serious federal (and state) offense. sooner or later someones going to court on this one (installing non-epa mods). just been waiting to see when.
piggyback folks would have a hard time ever getting EPA same with Conforti since the program is not fixed and could be changed. i've never seen a programmable/tune-able system pass CARB. they want the car to emit no more emissions under normal start/drive cycle just like stock. it could cost $25K to get that carb sticker for an intake (as in kone) back in the 90's i bet it costs alot more nowadays. most tuners require you to sign an off-road use only paper or EULA to keep the law off their backs. I most certainly would. last time i checked it was a criminal event not a civil fine.

Another question re CPO...
I didn't understand this part of the info, about the CPO program:
Quote:
I'm just wondering what specifically was going on that led BMW and/or Dinan to decide to remove CPO eligibility from Dinan flashed cars. I wouldn't not get a Dinan tune for this reason, but people should realize that if you get that Dinan tune, you will most likely get a lower trade-in on the car if you attempt to trade it in at a BMW dealer. Thanks to the OP for the good info, and for anything further you might know about this. |

It appears to me that the 335 stage 2 description has been updated today on Dinan's web page... or maybe this is old... but at any rate, what is this bull shit about having to take something out of the car and ship it to CA??? (thereby rendering the car unusable for God knows how long)
http://www.dinancars.com/store/Stage...13-p-3832.html "Unlike the earlier production 335s with the MSD 80 controller, the ECU has been changed for vehicles produced 3/08 and later, designated as an MSD81 Controller. Dinan has nearly completed development of the software for these cars however the ECU will need to be shipped to Dinan's facility in Morgan Hill, California for installation of the Dinan software, once it has been released. Contact a Dinan Performance Representative for specific instructions." |

Luckily I don't use my car everyday, and can walk to work, but I just love this baby too much to have it outta commission for a week or longer. I suppose if they can guarantee a day turnaround, you can next-day-air it both directions and maybe have it turned around in 3 or 4 days.
Totally f'n lame. And what do you want to bet only early-adopters will have to do this... eventually, they'll be having their dealers do it. I haven't checked my ECU label, as mine was built on March 26 or so, so I figured it had the new one... but now I'm gonna check today or tomorrow (any hints on how?)... and see if I slid in with the old MSD80... |

I would speculate that somewhere down teh line you could do a V81 at the dealer. Anyway, not that it's a great sollution, but, you could rent a little cheapy car for a few days and only be out $150 or so while yours is down.

Doesn't your dealer do loaners? I set an appointment for the 11th of August to get a loaner and drop my car off for the tune. I am planning on not having it for a few days based off the news. From what heard a few weeks back they will be able to do it at the dealers in 6 months but right now it will require sending the ECU off and waiting for it to be tuned. Odd stuff, I know.
