So I did the e90 “secret” menu thing to check my coolant temps and with mixed highway then in town driving after it gave a reading of high 80s. So I guess my Tstat hasn’t really failed yet. I’m still go to test my one I order to ensure I got a working one and will monitor the temps over the next week. I’ll see if the temps are consistent or if it’s time to replace it. I know it’s time to change it with my mileage and will see if I have time next weekend (if not raining) to do the swap.

If your temps are stable and around 87, I wouldn't exchange the Thermostat just for good measure. However, if you're doing the harmonic balancer, it would make sense to do the thermostat at the same time.
