Guess I am pretty confused as to which one to choose;
I had The Owl camera in mind before looking at this BMW Cam. Here is the link for Owl; https://owlcam.com/?gclid=Cj0KCQjws5...oaApNJEALw_wcB Comparing both I see the following PROS about the OWL Cam that makes me get it; 1. The single unit has both Front and Rear Cams. So no need to run wires all the way in the back. 2. Has a built-in SIM Card (LTE Band) and informs the user right away whenever there is a break in. FIrst-year access is free. 3. Live view can be accessed from the app. You can view live feed regardless of where you or car is. You can interact with the intruder through the built-in speaker of the cam. 4. The wire runs directly into the OBD Port so no playing with the Fuse Boxes. 5. Installing is a breeze. Now some of the cons of it: 1. The camera is installed on the Dashboard only. You cannot install it on the top of the windshield 2. The live view takes away one credit (out of 60 credits given every month) every time you access to the cam. WiFi access (you have to be close to the cam to get it) is free. 3. Makes the dashboard a bit cluttered. Not much discreet. All in all, I feel like The Owl Cam has nice features and a good price of $349. What do you guys say? |

I’ve been running the owlcam since January. I like it, it’s been good. It takes a little bit of time to get used to it being there on the dash, not that it’s blocking or anything. After a month you almost forget it’s there. It’s nice to be alerted/ checkup on your car when it’s parked outside or in the parking lot at work.

Here is a photo from the driver's seat. If necessary, I can take a photo outside the car

Also, if you don't plan on paying for the real time service after the first year, you just manually go back in the video history to find the incident, correct?

I went to my dealer to ask about the Car Eye 2.0. The service manager didn't know anything about them as he had never installed one. He was going to email me if he found out anything about them. That was 4 days ago. I guess they aren't that popular.

Basically where the instructions say it should be mounted. I saw some footage and it seems like it got an insanely wide angle, including the side windscreen pillars as well as central rear mirror support. Do you confirm that?

The only dash cam I will ever buy is one that is so well hidden that I can decide if I disclose its existence or the contents.
This way I am in control of any of the information that has been recorded and can use it as I see fit. This is America and you are under no obligation to provide evidence against yourself in any situation. I’m hoping that in the future you can mount a Camorra that looks like the lane keep camera and reverse camera and cover as much of the 360 view as possible. |

I am currently using a windshield-mounted Escort MAX 360c radar/laser detector with the Escort M1 dash cam connected to it. I like the fact that it's total mass/area is not as large as most stand-alone dash cams, including the BMW dash cam (BMW Advanced Car Eye 2.0). From what I have seen on the BMW video of their dash cam, it looks quite large, as well as disappointingly, very after-market appearance. FYI, here are some links to the Escort M1 dash cam:

BMW Advanced Car Eye 2 issues
Quote:
I am having a terrible time getting my new BMW Advanced Car Eye 2.0 to connect to my iPhone X so I can get the system started. I can’t get it to connect to the device WIFI. I am using an iPhone X running the current version of the iOS and was briefly able to use the ACE 2.0 application to update the firmware of the camera. However, since then I have not had any operational success. Here are some questions: 1. Do you connect to Car Eye WIFI via the WIFI settings BEFORE opening the app? If so, what are the proper security settings? (WEP, WPA, etc) I tried all of them, but that didn't work. 2. When in the process do I press the power button for turning on the unit to try and connect the app? I only got the green WIFI connection app once. The red light comes on for about a minute and then it turns off. 3. When the dashcam is recording, are any of the lights on the front dashcam illuminated? When I start my car the unit does not turn on. This makes me wonder if the dealer, BMW of Tenafly, installed it correctly. I am the first one to ever have it installed at my local dealer, so they have been unable to help. BMW genius wasn't helpful either. Note: The manual for this unit is especially challenging. It does not have a troubleshooting section. Thanks. |
