You ready to clean that filter every month? Definitely a true CAI though.

I have homemade scoops with the stock modified snorkel and Logic HVI. It gets very dirty quickly, just from having the scoops. But getting dirty quick also means its sucking in a lot of ambient air too, so there are always downsides and upsides.

Just get one of those AEM CAI hydrolock bypass valves if you drive through puddles all the time.

The trouble with puddles is that the water will splash out in front the car and probably soak your filter, on the good side it may clean your filter at the same time...

I'll look into that, but truth be told Toronto doesn't get that much rain (except for this damn year lol). Our sewage system is pretty decent so you don't really end up with any serious puddle lying around at all. Backroad and some industrial areas may be a different story, but how often will I ever be driving around there?

I was down in Florida a few weeks back and the rain there is bad. Car's were hydroplaning all over the place. I'd definitely think twice about doing this if I lived anywhere like there.

only works if the whole filter is submerged in water. I doubt you'll be driving into puddles that high.

Okay most people don't understand that exposing a filter like this through rain and such won't cause the engine to hydrolocked...filter has to be COMPLETELY submerged for water to get sucked into the engine...

Tihor it's nice to see something different, you'll just have to clean that filter often and inspect it to make sure nothing has punctured the filter itself. Or you're gonna be sucking lots of dirt into your engine.

Thanks for the kind words bud. I know it's not going to be maintenance free by any means, but I feel that it's worth the extra effort.

I'm happy with it and so I thought I'd share. I just didn't know that there would be soo much bad blood about it. lol

better get a shield around that bad boy regardless of your climate up there....just the road grime/dirt would lessen the capabilities of the filter unless you like to take it out and clean it once a month....

G/L though...

I know that, but I pointed it out to quiet the naysayers.

Not liking this mod, I think the way it came is just as efficient or even better than this modification...Less chance of hydrolock!

Wow, a lot of haters.

Let me go ahead and tell you that I ran a filter in the same place on my LS1 RX7 (actually, almost all FD LS1's will run a filter to that same location) for 6 months with no issues. Yeah, it gets bugs (no grill on the seven), but I don't think you should worry unless you are driving right into a lake.

You can't see it in the pics, but it's behind the right most opening:

I don't think you're going to have a problem at all. But if you want to be safe, just head over to Engineered Automotive and get that Dinan 'cover' or 'sock' to protect your air filter from water. I don't think it's that expensive anyway.
