I'm 30, and the e90 is my third bmw (95 e36, 2001 e46 being the predessesors) There were many rich snobby kids at school with a sense of entitlement which i think quickly dissipates when they go out on their own....

more disturbing to me though is how almost all bmw drivers are perceived by folks who drive other cars (say camrys, accords etc....) : flashy, snobby yuppies ... the fact that beemers are orders of magnitude better driving machines is lost on these poor souls

I am almost 23 now and I drive a 330i. I work for my family business so my parents financed the car under my name. I think myself as very lucky to drive a new car but I got my parent's trust which is the most important thing.

I knew many kids back in college who drove new porsche's, bmw's, mercedes that absolutely did nothing to deserve it. But you can't blame people if they are rich and can afford a new car for their kids for doing absolutely nothing to deserve it

You will get sterotyped once you drive a nice car no matter what so I tend to ignore it..

Im twenty, got my car when i was 19 and pay for my car on my own. I see alot of hatred towards me because of my car (lost a job because of a jealous manager), but it doesnt bother me, bc it only makes me work harder in life. I think when I can have like 10K left to pay, I wanna trade it in for an E-class, I wonder what type of reaction that will cause.

I feel old, but especially because I've been living away from home for 2 years and I only have 1 year left until the real world.

dang, so many 23 yr olds like me. I was just thinking to myself today, man, this car is costing me an arm and a leg! fortunately I got a full-time position after graduating last year and I'm able to pay for everything (i.e. monthly payments, down payment, insurance, gas, etc.) but today I was thinking, I would have saved so much money by now if I would have gotten a Civic or something...or how I could contribute more rent at home..or even how investing towards a house is actually a pretty smart idea..

but once I'm driving home after a long day of work or staring back at my E90 after leaving for class, all my troubles and worries just melt away.. I love my car..

that's true. My friends who got BMW's in high school as a gift from their parents now are still looking for jobs or are trying to establish themselves in their careers..I think it kind of made them feel like they had a false sense of financial security...whereas for me thinking that I would be able to afford a car like that one day if I worked hard enough was what kept me motivated in school...

O man you have read my mind exactly. For the first 3 months after purchasing my car, i kept kicking myself in the ass. I said No shit, i have to pay $308 every month, when i had a perfectly working car and didnt have to pay anything. I could have saved all this money for a down payment on property in the future, or even just to have extra cash. But everytime i sit in the car, i love her.. i just say you know, you only live once.

Yeah the situation here in Europe is very different.. Especially college students here in the Netherlands have absolutely zero money, their ride is a $5,- bike bought from a homeless junkie
It's very rare that someone in the early 20's has a new BMW, the ones who drive a car are driving 2nd hand VW Golf etc..

yea, exactly how i feel...and once our cars are finally paid off, they are ours to keep for as long as we want! No more monthly payments to worry about...just insurance and gas.

I think you also have to keep in mind that these cars are much cheaper to purchase and operate in the USA than in Europe and other parts of the world, so of course you will see more young people driving them.

As I understand it, a 325 can cost as much as $60,000 in some parts of Europe, and then you have to take into account higher insurance and fuel costs.

Ya, no matter how much we complain about the stuff we're paying when it comes to cars, we should all understand that America has it better then a lot of other places. That's because Americans demand this life style and sees driving/cheap gas as our god given right. If you want to buy European or American in Taiwan, the price is literally two times of what you would pay here, so is the gas. Yet they still all drives Mercedes back there. I remember when some of my relatives visit us from there, they look at our cars as if they're free, because my $45k bmw is what they pay for Accords back there.
