Why are they trying to charge almost $900 to replace the oil pan gasket when the subframe is already gonna be dropped anyway? That should only be, what...like an hours worth of work once all that $h!t is out of the way for the turbo install anyway..??

Should be no more than $100.

I setup a phone all with the sales guy and the manager to see what the deal is, there might be a mix up in the conversation, since I'm not talking directly to the manger. Hopefully we can get all this figured out.

If they can't get this figured out then you should take your car to another shop. If those are the prices they want to charge you then either:
1) They're incompetent and shouldn't be trusted for a turbo install.
2) They're trying to screw you, and shops like that will also try to cut costs/corners elsewhere.

What's the name of the shop? There might be some users on this forum with prior experience with them.

I spoke to the manager today and it went well I think. He did explain that besides the turbo connection, the inlet install is separate and has little overlap. He did give me a 50% off the oil pan gasket and is not going to charge for the outlet install.

I'd rather not mention any shop names since the goal isn't to shame anyone but to make an informed decision. I will only say they specialize in performance BMW's and are in the LA area.

Except the inlet install will take an entire 10 minutes with everything apart. You're getting taken for a ride.

Will you do my inlet install? If it's only a 10 minutes job with the turbo's then you will charge $10?

If I was charging someone to install turbos, I would not charge to replace inlets at the same time.

The shop shouldn't charge full labor on inlet install cost if they are already doing the turbos. Now, $10 more, that might not be enough either haha. 30-45 Min of labor would be fair.

First, that install time is laughable even doing it by itself. Second, when the subframe is dropped, and the turbos are already getting replaced, it makes it trivial to remove and reinstall the back inlet. The front will already be completely removed, so no additional time necessary there.

Probably too late now, but *shrug* good luck.

Haven't gone through with the install just yet. Set it up for December since that's when funds will be available. I did try my best to go a level above sales and talked to the manager, who stated he was also the owner of the shop, he assured me it was a separate job. Never the less, the cost of the turbo install job is really good for a XI model and in the long run, I think I am still saving some $$$... If it wasn't for the inlet install tho, I would have opted for a walnut blasting while I was there

When is the last time you had it done? and what do they charge?

Just make sure you trust the shop, they are reputable etc. You get what you pay for in the end of the day.

FWIW, my shop didnt charge me for inlet install labor when i got my turbos done.

yeah, that's not always true, especially when you're dealing with someone who obviously doesn't know what's involved with the job.

all the parts are presumably the original from new, so it will be the first time these get replaced. From what I understand the shop is reputable and in good standing with the BMW community. 4 1/2 stars on Yelp

You're not wrong, I meant to say my comment in general terms. Not in context to OPs choice of installer currently.

OP, perhaps get some other quotes from around your area, assuming you have any. But like everyone else here is saying, inlet installation kind of goes hand in hand with turbos.

Reputable shop, means they won't charge you extra for things that are more or less in the same realm. Or just charge you an extra x amount of time to realistically install an add on item, not a full install cost.

I recently did a complete suspension overhaul, including subframe bushings. Oil pan gasket labor was $50 since subframe was dropped for suspension work anyways.

Also had MMP stock location inlets/outlets installed which was only $350 labor. They weren't even touching the turbos otherwise. Just my .02 cents. I got lucky with the shop I found and the quality of work was excellent. If you're happy with the price then go for it.

When is the last time the engine was walnut blasted? That may be something to consider if it's been a while. Do the OFH at the same time as walnut blast since a lot of the labor should be overlapping.

Pure is only like an hour from where you live...have you bothered reaching out to see who they recommend to do this install for you?

Aside from maybe being able to save a couple bucks, this may help to alleviate at least some of your inevitable future headaches.

So here is the official update to this whole thing...
Car is back and running, all I can say is wow! the car sounds like a beast. I can hear the turbos and rushing air while driving on the highway. The 600s feel and sound great on a stock tune. Over all I am happy with the results. Ive done a few aggressive pulls but was advised against it. My cheap ebay intercooler pipes are barely holding on due to being too short.

I ordered a new VRSF 5" stepped intercooler from XPH, the FedEx tracking number says it was left at my front door, but guy never delivered it. So I am in the middle of a whole thing trying to get my money back. I filed a clam with PayPal, they cant do anything because the tracking reads as delivered. IT WAS NOT. FedEx has ruled the package lost, but needs the original shipper to file a claim, XPH has sent a request to VRSF which is the original shipper. What a headache.

Also I was told my transmission/transfer case mount is trashed. I am working on a replacement, seeing that no one offers a polyurethane mount for the XI, I am adding 3m window weld to stiffen it up one I bought from ECS. I have read lots good things about it so I am going that route for ease and price.

should have bought a 7" or a 7.5" fmic. You just installed upgraded twins, why go with a small 5" fmic ? If you paid all that money for the turbos and all the work might as well drop another couple hundred and get a proper fmic
