I can understand disposing of a raccoon, but that is torture by drowning it. BTW, I'm not a save the wildlife member.

OP, we have standards here. Look up the thread by jgoens and his misadventures of trapping a skunk on his property. We even have commentary from Skunkwerks

Go big or go home.

You'll thank me later.

My parents have an armadillo issue so we have 5 live traps on their property. The problem is that we rarely catch an armadillo because raccoons and opossums beat them to the bait. So I know live traps work. I usually dispatch armadillos when we catch them but I think raccoons are cool so I don't kill them, they come out of that trap angry so be prepared.

That's the problem with the web. Now if we were talking about ex-wives, then I'm fully on board.

Glad we can all keep it civil and not call each other names.

-Cheers.

Do you just release them where the trap sits or relocate the trap and then release?

I take the raccoons and opossums about 100 yards or so into the tree line and let them go. They really mess anything up on the property. The armadillos get a .22 and dumped into a trash bag. I hate doing it but they are digging under the driveway and shed causing a lot of damage.

Ex-wives? I'm not sure that's legal...

Bologna meat sandwich saturated with antifreeze does wonders.

And be cautious of raccoon's feces as they may contain a bacteria. Once the feces dries up and is disturbed, bacteria gets airborne and potentially inhaled by a human.

^This - I love trash panda's - think they are adorable.

Of course, I am also the guy who has 4 stray cats, 2 opossums, and a skunk currently as porch pets.

So there is that, I guess.....

I was kidding.

Honestly if it's not rabid or aggressive your best bet is to just put something down like the pepper to make it not want to come around. Otherwise it will just keep coming back. Is there any source of food nearby? I had one coming around my house frequently. Turned out to be the neighbors leaving their cat's food on the back deck and attracting it.

That's a good way to kill a neighbor's cat or dog.

Prefer not to kill a dog, squirrel or neighbors’ cats though.

I am generally cautious around all feces but point taken.

I had that happen to my dog. Had to give him a bath in tomato sauce so I could be around him without my eyes watering.

No food source on our patio although I’m sure it smells remnants on gas grill. Not sure what neighbors do.

No game cam - that was with my cell phone, lol. He comes up and sleeps on the porch sometimes - we have little box beds for the critters. There are also 2 huge opossums that pretty much live there too and several cats.

We call them the 'porch pets'. Our indoor cat watches them like it's cat TV.
