That really has nothing to do with the OTD price of the car as much as it has to do with BMW's really favorable leasing practices. If you know of someone who's driving a car beyond their means, there's a very good change they are leasing it. The good news is that this should be ending as well, based on articles I've seen and the latest info on 09 leasing terms. The bad news is that it probably won't affect resale value of the e9x generation of cars at all since there are so many of them on the road already. If BMW continues to tighten the leasing reins, though, the next generation 3er should be pretty exclusive and we'll see an appropriate increase in resale value. I dunno, is my logic flawed here? It's late and I've been working all day and night...

did exclusion of logic7 from ZPP effectively lower the price of ZPP? i haven't checked but that would make sense to me.

For comparison I can tell you that in Denmark:
Logic 7 costs ~26.000 DKK ~ 5.000USD M-sports package costs ~ 61.000 (for 335i) ~ 12.000USD I could spice this up with our petrol prices too? Reality check please ![]()

i'd like to see BMW's reasoning for this increase (except for the surmised "we need to make more money"). among other notable increases is the base price, from $40,800 to $42,000. to give an actual comparison; my car's MSRP was $49,400 just a few months back. right now, it would cost me $51,800, a $2,400 increase. wow!

No, you're not accounting for the $100 price increase that went into effect in June 08. The price for ZPP is the same, but without Logic7.

ZPP on the 2008 335i included:
Those components of the Premium Package are unchanged on 2009 335i models, and as methodtim points out, the pricing has not changed either. The base price of the 335i models was increased nearly 2% for MY 2009 over 2008, and the Logic7 system, previously included in the base price, adds $875 MSRP to those that opt for it in 2009. With that added cost, the 335 base prices actually increased just over 4% for the new model year. --LR

I for one know that the price increase will encourage me to cross-shop even more thoroughly than I did when buying my current 328xi. I hate to say it, but a 3er, even a 335, is just not a good enough car to command a $50,000-$55,000 price tag.

You think you guys have it bad????
The cost of the 335 (fully loaded) went up from $62K (when I bought it 1.5 years ago) to $75K now. That is absolutely insane. |

HD radio ($350) is now mandatory when buying iDrive ($2,100) - for a total of $2,450 (compare to $2,000 before, in case you didn't want the HD Radio).

I don't think anyone is happy about the price increases, but look at it this way. As of year end 2007, BMW was making something like $10k less in Euro terms on each 5 series they sold compared to several years earlier (Norbert Reithofer addressing financial analysts last year) due to the devaluation of the dollar. They held the line on price for a very long time.
Moreover, BMW just took a $1.0 billion write down this year for dropping residuals, primarily in the US. The US, BMW's largest market has really been punishing BMW's financial results for the past few years, in spite of their impressive success delivering compelling new models and registering great currency-adjusted financial performance. In this context, it was just a matter of time, my friends, that they took this action. They truly had no choice. It is canonical that a premium brand cannot discount its way to success. -Keepin' it real y'all.
