I was in Houston this past week...we left on Thursday morning and went to a friends place in Austin before coming home to NY. I'm just amazed that people would stay.

In Sara's case, she had a reason to stay and no means to move her horses. Very valid points. It's the people who stay with no reason to and are provided means and shelter to leave who I think are the complete idiots. Galveston Island was on mandatory evac two days before it hit. Transportation was provided. Shelters set up all over Texas. It's hard to feel sorry for them.

Sara, we're glad you're okay and please, everyone else, stop being idiots.

Ok, lets compromise here. The people who have the means to, have the time, etc to leave, but still decide to stay are idiots.

I know part of that is because we were waiting on Katrina to turn and go to Florida. When she didnt we didnt have time to load and leave and find a place. We wanted to leave believe me, but we are not the cruel people who leave their animals behind and "hope they can survive" like the stupid idiots who left theirs to die.

Ok put it this way douche bag. I was 17 no credit cards. Where the fuck was I supposed to go and how was I supposed to get there? Last I checked it required money to go anywhere. I havent had to work until I was 18. You really are ignorant.
So, which is it? You had no money to leave? Or you couldn't find a place to keep your horses? Or you thought it might turn and head away? Rather inconsistent excuses... Pick one so we can all keep up with the current version.

I'm not trying to get you all fired up - other than that last little bit. I'm trying to point out the lunacy in deciding to stay in the path of such a storm. You being 17 at the time places that burden on your parent(s) and/or guardian(s), not you. Hope you understand. if not, let me put it in a language you should understand:

Quote:
My Cuban grandparents which live in downtown New Orleans are being stupid and staying.
Quote:
WHY IS MY FAMILY SO DUMB!!
BTW, those are your own words about your own family for Gustav. I'll retract my language of "idiots" and "morons" and use your "stupid" and "dumb" if that will make you feel better.

And I'm the douche bag? I'm not the one bouncing back and forth on the issue.

Some of you guys must have grew up with a silver spoon in your mouth and don't know what it means to have a ruff patch in your life to work through, or had to struggle. Do any of you think if those people had the means to leave they wouldn't. Some are working check to check and they don't have the savings to evacuate them and their families. There was a discussion just like this about katrina, and i've heard some of the dumbest comments ever in that thread and in this one.

Thanks to a generator I've been able to watch tv, albeit the same fucking news all day (but it's something). I've already seen the Katrinians who never left Houston bitching.

"All we gettin' is a sandwich and water".

Quit fucking bitching, I'm so tired of all these whinners who are given a place to stay, free food and water, etc.

As for all the looters and line cutters (waiting for gas) go to hell.

I hope everyone else is okay. I'm thankful my parents house, and all we had to do was trim a few broken limbs and rake the yard. If living without power for the past 4 days and for however long is ALL I suffer, I'm greatful. A lot of people have lost everything.

I'm not sure how the national media is covering this, but it's beyond what you see on tv. Still high water all over the place, and there was damage in western LA. My uncles beach house is supposedly the only one left standing in Cameron, LA.

Best of luck to everyone who is still coping. And thank you to everyone who is helping doing something.

NW (Jersey Village which is at 290/Beltway 8). It's my parents house. I stayed there since Thursday. We got rocked pretty good.

There are a few houses with trees on them or through them in the neighborhood. Down light pole in our neighbors yard.

Going to Tomball Sunday, part of Hwy 249 was under water. Almost all backroads to Tomball were covered in high water and nearly impassible. The Woodlands got hit pretty hard. Cynthia Woods Pavillion lost its fabric top. Downtown looks like a war zone.

Going by the house I live in with a roommate today to pick up somethings. Probably still no power there.

Hope everyone up north faired alright.

The only thing about that is they could have gone to one of the centers they had set up in Galveston. Taken by bus. Some were even transported out free of charge to other cities.

So there really isn't much excuse to not get out. When the county sets up places to stay, and ways to get out without cost to you then you need to go.
