I get that the stimulus isn't unemployment, but for those who had good jobs and suddenly become without, this is a form of assistance. Also making $75k and owning a $50k car....doesn't mean this person paid $50k for said car. There are always underlying factors.

At the same time, I also see your point. We are a nation of morons whose wants tend to outweigh their needs. I'll give you that. Honestly, probably more the case than not. Not everyone is a forward thinker, they just know they want something.

FYI, the BimmerPost forum cluster is set up with individual forums for seemingly every model and color BMW ever made, all sharing a common general discussions and off-topic section. Not everyone here is driving an M3 or other 6-figure BMW!

Living responsibly within one's means and buying a CPO BMW where someone else already took the depreciation hit as a long-term hold, it is entirely possible to own a newer BMW and earn less than $75K. I'm certainly doing it...and still able to donate around $2,000/year to local charities (and don't even get a tax break for it).

With that said, my emergency fund was touched to buy a few necessities to work from home more efficiently. Part of my stimulus check is going to cover that (just did the e-transfer as a matter of fact), and the remainder will be going to a few local not-for-profits that are hurting for support to continue their missions.....

I need rotors bad, might just hunker down and buy them. Also need to file my 2019 return yet and that is going to be brutal. Not sure yet.

*My M3 was only 24k please don't shame me for making poor life decisions, thanks* lol

I'm not. Most ppl don't have a mindset of being financially aware. They probably don't make enough money so they are getting checks, and just spend all on their cars anyways. And I'm not saying all, just most...

It's not a part of the equation. It is though if you're actually financially smart with your money. Too many people live beyond their means.

I got a baby coming in September so mine will go into savings for now. My wife and I don't make a ton of money but we have no debt besides a mortgage and over 25% equity in our home.

I have my BMW paid through my business and my "write offs" allow me to post a lower income on paper. Not sure why that means I shouldn't drive a BMW for those of you saying so.

This thread has brought out a sense of elitism from people who suddenly know your whole story and situation based on whether or not you got a stim check

Same, seems like an awful lot of hatred being spread on us poor individuals who make less than $99k a year. God forbid we spend our money where we like, ya know...?

24 yo here, making more than the minimum, but less than the max, still have an M2 Comp. I watched my parents work their asses off and make $150k+ my whole life. Now that they are getting near retirement age, they talk about all the things they would love to do, but hell, they're getting old, so now they can't enjoy all of those things. I'll be damned if I spend my life like that. Live it while you can. You can't take it with you when you're gone...

To be on topic, the ole stim check will be paying for our honeymoon. We were supposed to be getting married this Saturday, but that has since been postponed to late July. The honeymoon has also been moved, but rather than coming out of pocket for it, the check covers a good chunk of it. I'm definitely not complaining. Also, a house. We've been looking for quite a while, and figured now is the best time to pull the trigger. Put in an offer on a house, but have since pulled it. We have 3 we are touring tomorrow, so we will see!

We won't get one, but I paid less than $10K for my little 128i daily driver with about 67K miles on it.

My Corvette listed for around $68K new, but I paid $26K for it used with less than 30,000 miles on it.

If we did get one, we would be giving it to local businesses that do charity work in our area

Firstly the government just sends it out to anyone who reported $75k or less in income. They didn't ask if you wanted it. They didn't do an investigation to see if you really needed the money. Obviously they can't do that.

So you could be making minimum wage with $10 to your name and you get a check. Or you could have a couple million in the bank and working a part time job because your bored or have a side business making a few bucks, you still get a check.

Secondly I'm not sure what is considered a good % of your income to go towards your vehicle. I personally just like to pay cash, however a quick google search seems to come up with 10% being the most commonly recommended amount. That means if you make $75k you could afford (according to the internetz) a $625 car payment. Plenty of BMWs lease for way less than that or if you're smart you can just get a used for a lot less.

Lastly if you work a salary job then yes, more than likely if you got a check you made $75k or less. However if you are self employed or own a business that number means jack shit if you have a half decent accountant. I know many business owners who are making $$$ but pay very little tax.

If you do get that stimulus money remember there's no free lunch. Save it because sooner or later that bill will come due.
