First off sorry to you Guys at Evolve as it was me that let the cat out of the bag

I actually asked the Guys about this possibility after experiencing limp mode issues at a recent track day, IMO it would be beneficial for me to have my current map as the daily driver with its high torque figures and a milder version, high bhp but lower torque output for track use to avoid any repeat limp mode issues. My third map would be either standard or Valet for use by other drivers.

I had the same functionality with my GIAC mapped 8P S3 and although unsurprisingly the car spent the majority of its time in 'race/pump' map it was good to have the option especially as the flashloader was rrp £99 and each subsequent map approx £35 each after the initial remap cost.

Bluefin supplied by Superchips offers a similar option of standard or mapped but admittedly not for BMW.

I'm definetly in the que

If you are interested I will sell you 2 blocks of wood painted in the interior colour of your car for £3K to stick under your throttle pedal

I think the Evolve work should be praised, It won't suit everyone but they are taking time to develop products which must be a good thing surely

Having spent 18+ years in manily VAG cars this is quite common place now; Revo, ST3, Bluefin, etc all do switchable maps, some with up 3 progs, some up to 5 progs. All can be changed via the ODB port, and if updates take place within the brand/model and you need that update then you can get an updated 'map' from the 'tuner' for your car.

Plus, most of these can be supplied via t'internet, so its quick and easy!

However, being new to BMW I'm kind of surprised that this hasn't taken off with BMW tuning yet.

I found it equally frustrating when I switched to BM from VAG, perhaps less people feel inclined to remap a BMW but from the interest on here I find that hard to believe.

It has now been released for BMW EDC16 ECU which includes 1/318d 122 BHP, 1/320d 163 BHP, 325d, 330d and 335d.

evolve switch

It can hold 3 maps ie Standard/Map1/Map2 and allows the user to switch maps by plugging it into the diagnostics port and following the onscreen instructions.

The cost of the switchable unit is £185 inc VAT and delivery plus the cost of the remap. When you sell your car the unit can be sold on or if it is compatible with your next car you take use the unit again and just purchase another map at 20% off RRP.

Additonal maps are £150 each. TBH additional maps are gimmicky. Our normal tunes return more MPG anyway. The only use I can think of for additional maps at this stage is to have a milder map for the other half driving but then you are better off returning it back to standard.

We have some in stock ready for next day delivery.

How does thhis work if BMW update your car's software;

- you return the car to standard to take it into BMW
- for some reason they update the car's software
- you get the car back and you want the remap back on

I had something similar on a Volvo and you had to go online to get the new version of the remap or something?

the new engines though use the ECU17 module don't they, i.e 177bhp 2.0 turbo, 123d (does not apply to use guys but you know what i'm getting at).

superchips have a bluefin for this module already, a few 1 series owners with the 177 engine have it.

Good work, chaps. Would've come knocking if you'd had this two years ago...

Can you do custom maps? Say, if someone changed turbos, for example.

Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 are common in VAG world, Revo (for example) I'm sure you know offer Generic Stage 3 maps for particular Turbo upgrades, GT28RS etc...

As the e9x gets older, there's got to be some opportunities, surely?

I guess the real question is what does it do the ECU and what can BMW tell from it, can BMW tell how many times the map has been changed?

i think bmw can tell to, if your map raises errors because there is to much torque through gear box etc (i.e limp mode) that will show, if bmw really want to know they can simply send your map to bmw in germany and get them to compare it to a standard one. there is a far easier way to tell, take your car for a spin !!!

But that's the whole point in being able to flash it back to standard, so if they do take it for a spin or test the map it shows it has the original.

If this happens then we repeat the process and get a new map made based on the updated software version at no extra cost to you.
