hm def sounds fishy. now days all the auto companies want to dominate the ring even the americans (but they winning ) and everyone is making a lap video with time to prove to the world their car can run the time BUT what the videos don't mention is what tires, etc were used which can greatly affect the lap time.

weather or not the gt-r lap claim is on/off what we can expect is that the gt-r v spec will def be a new dominator against the current champ the dodge viper acr.

but lets face it guys when porsche says no substitute there really is no substitute

Maybe the GT-R that Porsche bought had its ECU updated.

there must be some truth in Porsche's claims. A senior level manager of Porsche wouldn't take the risk of telling reporters about the finding unless he is sure.

sad that porsche cant just move on and make something that would for sure be able to beat the GTR. or hell.... make the 09 turbo a beast even! this is coming from a hardcore porsche enthusiast too

even though i do agree; how the hell an almost 4000lbs car with 480hp cant do the ring that fast...

The GT-R optimizes the power it has.

Even though it was uncool for them to call the GTR out like that, but I still agree with what you say, there must be some truth to what they say. If it was something small I'm sure they would just brush it off, but clearly they have something to point out and make it public.

They probably had no choice but to check. After all Nissan totes the GTR as the porsche killer and often compares its performance to Porsche turbo and gt2. If in fact the numbers do not reflect a true street car, then Nissan is in for some bad press. That is a pretty significant time difference.

So they havnt said yes or no to this yet, Nissan that is??????

I think its easy , they sent a ringer to the ring.

Its easy to up the boost, sneak in tires,,, this is all to draw a huge amount of attention to the gt-r.

It was done with the evo8 in 2003,,, there were ringer cars out there, just to spike a huge interest, and well, SELL CARS.

But all in all, whoever buys a gt-r will not have it stock,(90%), so they will have a just as fast car.

But Nissan is in for it if this is true,,, and if Porsche pushes the issue.

Porsche isn't saying the GTR can't do it, just that they think Nissan used racing slicks for the 7:29 time. But Nissan already stated it was completely stock.

Didn't Horst Von Saurma from Sports Auto get a time of 7:50 with just a cool lap around the ring? Porsche's driver couldn't push the GTR faster than Saurma going easy?

Yep, Horst dids have a 7:50. Sportauto's time for the 997 tt is 7:54 (http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?vie...D=2&tID=126501)
While they had a 7:33 for the GT2 (http://www.supercars.net/Pics?vpf2=y...mID=768019&l=f)

These times make no sense. Sportauto is 16 seconds slower in the Turbo, one second faster in the GT2 and 4 seconds faster in the GT-R. None of this adds up. Though that won't stop the GT-R hater from acting like we finally have something definitive.

This makes a bit of sense. According to this article the Porsches were running Michelin Sport Cups. Typically, at least in the States, the Turbo is delivered with PS2s, not Sport Cups which could account for a quicker time this time around. The GT's have Cups std. here

An obviously biased claim, BY THE MANUFACTURER THEM SELVES.

Nissan used Porsche as a benchmark, and blew by them, and now they are just being cry babies about it. Nothing personal Porsche its all friendly competition.

If the result can not be reproduced, or if the car was a ringer of some sort then Nissan didn't "blow by them"

Could it be that the Porsche owned GT-R had the 'cold weather package'? Also, a premium package GT-R used RE070Rs while the normal ones get the SP Sport 600.

I believe it said Porsche had a US spec GTR, perhaps the US version is dumbed down in some way compared to ROW
