I apologize I don't know the exact size I'd have to double check, but I live in Ohio and I too have been trying to find some winter tires. Just from my readings and research it seems that Bridgestone Blizzaks seem to be the go to.

First of all I would run a square setup in the winter. No reason to run a staggered setup since your want to run skinnier tires for better traction in snow.

It depends on your driving needs on what kind of tires you should get. I live in Minneapolis where the snow gets plowed very quickly and only drive ~4k per year. Since 2 years ago it barely snowed and not driving that much I've loved my Dunlop 3D's. For a dedicated snow tire they drive very well on dry roads (most of my driving) and performed extremely well when there has been snow on the roads. A lot of people on this forum will tell you to get Blizzacks, but they've been known to lose a lot of performance when the original compound wears off and you're at half tread. A lot of MN drivers have enjoyed the Hankook iPikes, but when it comes down to the best overall tire for MN look no further than the General Altimax Arctic tire. They are excellent in both snow and ice. The only problem is that they don't come in 18's which is why I went went the 3D's. if you end up with 17's get the Generals.

I appreciate the advice from a fellow Minnesotan. So I wll be running 17" wheels this upcoming winter on my '07 335i with sport setup.

It's coming down to General Altimax Arctic vs. Blizzak WS70 vs. Michelin XI3

Do you or others have a preferred tire to recommend? Why?

The Altimax Arctic is a good value-oriented, entry level option.

Hard to go wrong with either the Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 or Michelin Xice Xi3. On packed snow and ice, the Michelin XI3 would has a very slight advantage over the Blizzak WS70. On unpacked snow and slush, the WS70 is a bit better than the XI3.

Keep in mind that we will not know which winter tires will be available yet for this winter. We should have more information around mid September.

I'm trying to confirm Style 285 will fit my 2010 335ix to use as a winter wheel. Anyone know of use those wheels? Thanks.

Easy way to confirm if a given style of factory wheels will fit... look them up on realoem, get the part number, and then see if they've ever been used on a 335i or 335d.

In this case, I looked up a random E90 328i, found the part number for the Style 285 wheel (36116783631)

As you can see here

that part number was in fact used on at least a few 335i's and d's. So it will work. (BTW in case you didn't figure it out, E90 = E90 pre-LCI, E90N = E90 LCI)

My guess is that any 17" wheel used on an E9x should fit over 335i brakes, but I have not done any exhaustive research on this, it's just a hunch.

225/45R17 can be used front and rear with those wheel sizes. Top choices for the best snow and ice traction for a non runflat would include the Michelin Xice Xi3 and Bridgestone Blizzak WS-70.

I second the 17" Rial Salernos as an option. Nice looking 5 spoke design, easy to keep clean, they're made in Germany and hold up very hardy to winter use! Ordered mine thru Tirerack.

Summer/track I run 255/40-17 R1r's on my 17x9 arc8's. some folks run 245 because of fitment/lack of camber concerns.

Winter I run 235/45-17 Xi3's on same wheels with great results. You get the narrow tread you want for winter but with the wider wheels it doesn't look so funny. Handling is great.

I'm actually running square as well on my Apex track wheels but the stock 313's are of course staggered.

Make sure to ask Apex if the xdrive will cause any fitment issues up front with that wheel width. I don't think it does, but that's the one big difference between our cars (that, and I'm running -2.7 degrees of front camber).

Rears should not be an issue at all.
