How did you even come across the video on your neighbor’s Facebook page? I have no idea what my neighbors do on social media (nor do I care). Yes, it’s the Internet, but who is really seeing it? I wouldn’t escalate it if he doesn’t take it down. It will fade away soon enough unless he is antagonized.

The last person to ring our doorbell was a half-naked barefoot woman at 6:30 AM a few weeks ago, frantically asking us to call 911 because the neighbor's house was on fire with people trapped inside. Suppose that we didn't answer the door, because we assumed that it was a neighborhood miscreant playing a prank? Maybe a second fatality, losing our house as well if the fire spread uncontrolled, and a melted blob where my BMW i3 sat in our driveway?
I can tell you that my parents would have whipped my butt so hard that it would have still be painful to sit down 50 years later if I did something like that.....

Amazing how quickly the world changes.
We used to do this in high school in the late '00s. Social media was in its infancy so people couldn't plaster our faces on the internet.

I hate when kids do this to my house (sidewalk passes our bell and we have no front yard) I usually don’t pay it any mind and the kids are little asses that know there will be no reaction and just walk at a normal pace and ring every bell on the road as they pass.
In your kids case, it is good that he apologized but you can’t expect the neighbor to take the video down. Remind your kid, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Again, boys will be boys. They could have been up to much worse, trust me I know. The video thing sucks but that's the world we live in now and the perpetually triggered mob want harsh penalties for every perceived infraction. Oh, and when I played it we called it nicky nicky nine doors.

It was a right laugh for us at the time. But I can understand, now, how annoying that must have been. I'd be thoroughly pissed off if the local kids were doing that to me now, though. And if I'd caught the little bugger's faces on camera, then yup I'd probably post it to the local Facebook group - sorry! |

It seems that people tend to forget that nowadays.

How old is your kid? Old enough to walk around the neighborhood at 1030pm… is old enough to post on the internet. I'm sure his face is already on the WWW for other things social media.
Do the prank, deal with the consequences.

Will the video go on your sons credit report? Was he holding a beer? He was on your neighbors property and gave up any hope of privacy, he’ll see that he made his point and will likely delete it shortly.

People need to lighten up. The kid is a brat and a #2 for ringing a bell and running? Oh, the horror! Someone rang my bell and ran. Give me a break. The kid didn’t vandalize property or steal something. He rang a bell. I don’t agree with posting his face.
He learned a lesson. Someone is always watching and you can’t hide from social media. Hopefully the guy takes the post down, but if not at least it’s nothing serious. |

I agree with the neighbour having the right to post his face all over the internets. He abandoned all rights and expectations to privacy the moment he stepped foot on someone else's property. Too bad, lesson learned.
That said, I can't really see the benefit the neighbour is getting from doing so, UNLESS, he has been the repeated target multiple times and this is his way of getting it out there that everyone's face is going to be made public if they keep it up, so leave his house alone. And that would be fair. If not, I'm guessing he'll take it down. Kids will be kids, but doesn't mean there should be no consequences, that's part of the whole thing. I had consequences - many of them. And I learned from them all. Most parents don't use corporal punishment now, so the consequences now are just different than before. My brother and another guy in his unit got nicky nicky nine doored a little while ago, they got to that door pretty quick even though the kids took off, pretty sure when they saw two jacked dudes pour out of the house quickly they realized this was a house they didn't want to repeat the stunt on. And they didn't. |

If this was my son I would have asked the guy to take down the video after my son apologised. If I was the neighbor I would take it down after the apology. Unfortunately most people aren’t civilised and understanding. Especially if don’t have kids of their own.
@Tranquility you may not want to call a kid you know nothing about a brat in front of his father. I’d slap you so hard you’d forget how to speak French. |

This doesn't seem to be a big deal either way. I did it when I was a kid. Had it done to me as a homeowner. Kids have done a lot worse. It's not vandalism. So the son's face is on FB. It's not like it's a big humiliation, is it? Does the son even care? Is this a gateway to more serious shenanigans? Lol, I don't think so.

Anyway, back to reality, ppl who took part in this stupid immature prank in their silly youths shouldn't have an opinion itt. If anything, they ought to know better than most how annoying it is and teach their offspring to behave like upstanding citizens. Also, what is the big deal w the neighbor leaving the video up (if they choose to do so)? Not as if they misrepped anything. It is what it is... In any event, like I averred to earlier, it's good that the OP made his/her son accountable and if I was the neighbor after that exchange, I'd either remove the video or at least block out his face just to maintain some semblance of being neighborly. |

Op, you did the right thing by making him apologize to have his face pulled off line, not that anything really disappears. In this day you have no idea if the stupid kid thing turns up later and turns into a problem.
I use to tell my kids if they found themselves in situation where people were doing stupid kids things and cameras started to come out, they should get themselves out of there. I told my kids of similar situation I had with my friends when I was teenager. We were not doing ding dong ditch, however, my friend lived across the street from the main area hospital and we use try and sneak in at night and explore the hallways. One time my friend "found" a set janitor keys which allowed us access to areas of the hospital you normally can not get to especially at night. Needless to say security found out we're in hospital opening doors and they came looking for us. We were able to get out without getting caught. What we did not know, the hospital had cameras in some areas and they had us on tape. About an hour later my dad called my friend's house looking for me, when I answered my dad started asking me why I was in the hospital, I first tried saying I was not which did not go well, then he said that we needed to return the keys and get my ass home. My friend managed to return the keys without coming in contact with security and I went home. I got a verbal beating from my dad and got the how stupid are you conversation. Then I got to ask how the hell he knew what we were doing. Due to my dad's job he knew a lot of the local police and many knew me since my dad used to take me to work with him. As turned out the head of night security at the hospital was one of the local police who knew my dad and me and when they were reviewing the tapes to see how we got in the head of security recognized me and called my dad ratted is out. Imagine how that would have turned out today. |

LOL, cameras aren't new. I still remember an episode of Happy Days, where the guys mooned somebody/thing, maybe a pep rally?
Anyways, over the loudspeaker in school "The FBI has ways of identifying you" L O L I remember, back in my yoot. It still comes up these days when my wife's family talk about lengua. Yeah, I bought a cow tongue once. We rigged it, after we TPd a house, so that when they opened the front door, the tongue came swinging. . . |
