2) You said that you got the car in March, when it has been at a dealership has it ever been programmed? When was the car actually built (not the compliance plate date but the date on the sticker, I think its on the underside of the bonnet on an e9x. It will say "BMW Built: Oct 2007" for example)

3) The sensors do actually rub on the disc and create a squelling noise, worse on the e6x. When it is the sensor you can file it down a little bit (note your CBS will more than likely change). It is not hard to do at all - if you can change a wheel you can do it.

4) If you are going to go with non oem brake pads either fit new discs aswell or be prepared for new discs soon as you will chew through oem discs like no tomorrow.

1- No it happens on straights as well.

2- Jan 08 build, took delivery March.

3- The BMW tech knows this problem he confirmed it wasn't the sensors, it is definately the brake pads. No real solution found by BMW. Some substance is on the pad that makes the noise when braking (glistering i think) and one solution is buff out the substance. It comes back again so i am hoping BMW can find a better OEM pad replacement sometime soon because im not the only with this problem.

4- I can live with the noise for now but if it does bother me down the track i will look into other brake pads and discs.

i have a 03 WRX and the shuddering was coming from the rear rotors after 20,000km and is a common problem but easily fixed when replaced.

apart from that, the wrx is bulletproof. never skipped a beat and rattle free.

am looking at a 335i but now REALLY worried after learning of overheating and what not. bmw's are overrated? my brother has a z4-M roadster and has a grinding sound from his brake even without them being applied. he has a pretty annoying rattle coming from around the satnav area too. sheer driving pleasure eh..

And like the infamous Subaru Liberty brake shudder - Subaru were very obliging, changing pads, rotors, machining rotors etc. Nothing they did helped, whereas a set of aftermarket Ferodo pads fixed everything immediately.

I imagine BMW, like Subaru, are limited to 'approved' pads when doing work like this. Has anyone found an aftermarket solution?

Well i am booked for the 26th of this month for another visit to service dept thanks to that embarrassing noise from rear brake pads. I got so pissed off the other day when the noise echoed throughout the car park when slowly accelerating. Everyone just looked at me as if my car was a POS moving around the place. BMW should by now have a better brake pad compound for us, if not they can just replace mine until every 5000kms when the noise starts.

i've had this squeeling noise issue and i replaced the rear pads and it has never squealed abit at all. i stuck to the rear oem pads too.

i have brought the car to bmw few times and they just clean the backing of the pad and relube but it does come back after few thousand km of driving. very annoying indeed.

Had a similar brake squealing noise problem last year. Had all 4 brake pads and sensors replaced. It's all good after that.

EDIT:

Let me know how you go with the second visit. I was told nothing could be done and was not part of warranty, they said the brake suppliers would not cover them for the issue so they would make a loss. Quite simply put they don't give a f#%k. I will get them to replace it at there cost but will need to find some time to take it in again and also need to chat with another sales rep that knows me (the one i bought from left). This should be an automatic replacement but they seem to think they can make us think otherwise.
