Yeah I am, that's ridiculous. Other provinces are at 60% of that figure, it is so mismanaged here. Even back home in OZ it is 40% cheaper. And god help you if under 25, it can be $7K a year. Whole system is broken.

I agree with you 100%, and I wish I had an answer. Here's 2 thoughts. Our population has grown tremendously in the past 2 years so therefore more workers needed for trades. However, in the past I could always hire people from out of state willing to relocate. Now, they cant afford the housing and if they can there is no inventory to be had.

Not understanding
That is $170 a month per car... that is ridiculous. (4k / 12 is $333 for 2 cars).

For comparison I am paying $175 a month for full coverage on my Z4, GMC Sierra, X3, AND Harley.

What are your policy limits, deductible, and who are you insured through?

I may want to switch. I have 100/300 with a $500 deductible on everything I pay more than $175. I have a clean driving record with zero at fault accidents.

It also goes by where you live. In Louisiana attorneys are allowed to advertise on the air about car accidents, etc., this raises the premiums for Louisiana drivers significantly for that reason alone... My rates doubled moving to this state.

Since I migrated to the wagon my rates dropped way way down to only $1,800/yr or about $150/mo. I live in one of the worst zip codes in Texas for accidents and drive about 25k a year. So it's always going to be bad.

By comparison you might enjoy this figure I had on my 2016 Mustang GT
Single
50 yo male
homeowner
good credit score
one vehicle
no accidents
no tickets
25k/year annual mileage

hold your breath

State Farm: $4560/yr US
Progressive: $4200/yr US
Geico: $3840/yr US
General: $3600/yr US
Safeco: $3480/yr US
Fred Loya: $2640/yr US

Needless to say I went with Fred Loya. The Progressive rep actually had to go check why the Mustang was so high and came back with some story that it was a "recipe" of bad factors that added up to the Progressive just not wanting to insure the vehicle so they offered an exorbitant rate.

I am with State farm and also have homeowners through them for extra discount. All of my policies are 250/500 and I have a 500 deductible on the X3, 1,000 deductible on the rest as they are paid off.

Thank you, Louisiana, for being number 1

Iowa at 45

I most likely cannot pay any lower than I am currently paying. I doubt any car insurance company is cheaper than mine. Thank you high crime and high weather risks.

Well damn, seeing what others are paying has me feeling better about what I’m paying lol. Now $1200 for 100/300 with 250/500 deductibles and zero for glass seems pretty decent

Maybe less, but there is this hidden "recoupment surcharge" fee that all insured drivers in NC pay. The fee is to help cover the high-risk drivers in the state. Other states require insurance companies to cover high-risk drivers in a round-robin format where the insurance company name comes up on a list to take the next high-risk driver (spreading the risk across the companies). NC has a state supported "insurance Facility" that covers these high-risk drivers. The good drivers pay a fee to support this facility and the insurance.

Hidden, as in the bill is written such that the fee does not have to be disclosed to the payor, and is required to be hidden.

Depends on what your policy covers. Liability only, I'd say that's high.

Will your insurance company write a policy with higher limits? If so, you might want to check and see how little your bill goes up with more coverage.

Many moons ago, my grandmother totaled a brand new Lexus, a year-old Mercedes, and 264 feet of NJ Turnpike guardrail. She was ruled at fault, despite claiming that it was a chain reaction accident and someone from behind pushed her into those cars and guard rail. Her state only required 10/20 liability insurance at the time, and that's what she was carrying.

When it came time to settle, her insurance company wrote $10K checks to both car owners and washed their hands. She was on the hook for the rest, plus paying the Turnpike Authority to replace 264 feet of guardrail. They didn't even hire a lawyer to contest the claim, since it was cheaper to write $20K in checks than pay for an attorney.

Ever since that day, I raised my own coverage to the maximum that my insurance company will write. I've also considered umbrella insurance, but that's another topic.

FWIW, I'm currently carrying these limits on 4 vehicles for under $3,000/year in NY State, with a $500 deductible:

Property Damage: $500K

Bodily Injury: $1 million / $ 1 million

Supplemental Uninsured Motorist: $500K / $500K

The insurance payouts are higher due to the increase in vehicle market prices, so they pass that on to the customer through your premiums. Repairs cost more due to rising parts prices, and the cost to replace a totaled vehicle is insane now.
