Waiting stinks, but you get exactly what you want, which to me on a $60k price tag item, is critical. If you're leasing, maybe not a big deal since you're only going to have it for 2-3 years.

I'm still at stage one since getting my production number on 4/6 or so.

That’s true. I would love to order one. The current 230i is in the perfect spec (color/options) but I will ask them a time estimate on how long would it take for the m240i. If it’s no longer than 2023, I might order one, if not I will try to find one similar to the specs I want. Hopefully I can find one

It’s quite hard to find a dealer that already ordered one where it’s lightly optioned. Best I find which is in Cali for 9k difference. I have to call them and see if they have any mark up or not. I don’t how long it would take if I were to order one now, but my guess, it would come during Christmas which is a bit too long for me.
I had a 240 with another dealer final assembly. I picked up another one due to cuz that one was closer to arrival. That being said there's a 240 at a socal dealer in thunder night. DM me for details

I wrestled w/same when ordering in Sept/Oct 2021. Iinitially ordered 230i w/M Sports Pkg in Late Sept but after few weeks found few options like HUD would be removed from non M models due to parts shortage & possibly Sirius/XM (only pre-wired). Also, I don't really need AWD, live in the Southeast. But then started thinking, I had a 2018 230i w/M Sports and loved it, car was a joy to drive but why not treat myself and get the M model instead.

I priced out again with same equipment and was ~ $8k higher. The M240ix has extra 130 HP, HUD will remain, has $2k option for AWD and has rear differential. Why not pay the extra?? Saved lot more money during the pandemic like many folks and figured the $8k would be forgotten in no time. In fact I already have, love the M240xi... The Inline 6 cyclinder Turbo engine is amazing

But that said, the 230i is wonderful also w/M Sports pkg & Shadowline

best of luck w/decision..

Yes I ended up changing my deposit for 230i to a m240i in another state that will be coming next week!! Still quite unsure with the color, hopefully it will look good in person. The Melbourne Red Metallic.

For whatever reason, metallic red is not a hot selling color in most any car. I had a metallic red MB convertible and it was about a 1 in 100 color for the model. I guess you either love it or you don't. I personally love it. If I was building a dream car in my mind it would be some shade of dark metallic red. And what's odd is that regular, nonmetallic red is one of my absolute least favorite colors. But once you have it I think you will be glad it stands out from all the silver, gray, white and black blahness out there.

I would have like a Dark Red choice also.. but not a fan of Melbourne Red which has too much Orange in it for my taste

Honestly same. I would love the Aventurin Red Metallic on the m240i. But definitely the Melbourne Red Metallic seems so hard to come by in the m240i and it would really stands out from the other. Personally not my favorite color but it's the only available m240i and others are all pre-sold, I guess I don't really have a choice if I don't want to wait.

Not a big deal tho. You can always wrap it with whatev color you like when you are tired of the factory red

Yep definitely, this is what I have been thinking too. Thank you all for the suggestions, it really made me change from the 230i to the m240i without having to regret not getting the m240i later. Went on a few test drives and definitely see why people would choose the m240i.

so.... i can safely assume that by your original question, you were already decided but waiting for more input and confirmation to make the switch glad you did though and we're always here to make sure people spend more i did ask an innocent question once in a different forum and ended up with the M2 comp until the next M2
