If you have summer, you need winters
If you have all seasons, it should be okay for even SFU. Back when I still was studying my ass off in SFU, one day I was driving my Honda Accord from 94.... on eh.. Michelin HydroEdge.... So I was going up the hill darn slow but enough so I'm sure I won't get stuck/stop in the snow, avoiding routes that will force me to take a uphill/downhill turn, and what do you know? A Porsche Cayenne S was stuck while I kept on moving.... I never got stuck ever going up SFU pretty much everyday (aside from semester break) between my academic career (2002 - 2006). So All-Seasons's fine including up to SFU. And really, it's not the car or the tires sometimes... it's the driver.... you need to find the right path to go around things sometimes and you need to take it slow and extra careful. Even a tank won't help if one drives like a maniac. I got summer/winter setup now however as I take my car to Whistler/Cypress/Big White frequently. |

yeah summer tires during winter.. uber scary times.. dunno how i survived goin to bcit without some.. esp. goin down willingdon.. but somehow made it without a scratch =]
but that was wayy stupid.. gotta grab some winters this year.. any recommended ones? was thinkin more of all seasons rather than winters since i dun have any other rims to put em on (not willin to buy new set of rims) and does it matter where u get em done? apparently the manual says "bmw center or tire shop" (jus so no one throws RTFM on me) |

Since you guys out west dun get as much snow as we get here in T.O. so just go to Crappy tire and pick up a set of winter master and throw them on steelies. Any kind of winter tire is better than 4 season on snow in term of stopping distance and traction. You gonna save $$$ down the road.

God Help Me!
Would all you cheapasses out there PLEASE buy a set of winter tires! I'm afraid to take my E90 out on the roads at this point becuase so many Lower Mainlanders think that just because we only get a few snow days its not worth getting winter tires. Newsflash - Its not just snow, its the cold temperatures too that make your "no seasons" and summer tires useless. I can't think of anything more embarassing than being stuck on the side of the road standing next to my $60,000 car while everyone else in a beater with a set of winter tires drives right by and laughs. I'm more worried about some moron driving around on summer/no season tires slamming into my baby than I am about me sliding into someone. I'm sorry I have to flame the people on the thread but I can't help it. Think about the other people on the road that you may end up hurting because you're too stupid/naive/cheap to get a set of winter tires.

I was stunned today that I still see 335 on the road with the sport-package wheels ROFL.
I started to think that some people may not even know they are on summer tires |

I think your right, people just don't understand the slicks that come with a sports package, if you have a sports package get yourself dedicated winter tires . I saw a guy last year here in Victoria in a beautiful new 6 Mseries trying to drive in a snowstorm Man it was scary, he had his girlfriend out pushing. how stupid is that you can afford 100K plus for a car but not the snow tires. He almost spun the poor girl into the ditch.
