Why would you use a dealer for a private sale?

Some people run it through the dealer to get a tax credit on the value of the car for a future purchase. EX: Selling GT3 for $160k, pay dealer small fee to run transaction, save $12k on taxes for next purchase from that dealer. Has to be within 12 months in states that do it I think. Some dealers also do it as a courtesy for their best customers.

Yes that is the question. The OP spelled out the expected transaction value of around $20k. A GT3 most likely doesn’t fall into that window.

Again, why is this so complicated?
Because California has more people than all of Canada.
There are a LOT of scumbags looking to scam and rip you off in the USA.
I'm just being honest.

Thanks. What was the interaction with the dealership? You met the seller in the dealer parking lot, and exchanged title for what? What role did the dealer play?
That's what was (weirdly) nice. The dealership notarized docs and submitted the paperwork for a temp tag. All because it was a small town local dealership that was helping out a past customer.

Has anyone verified a cashier’s check via phone call to the issuing bank?

Contemplating a private party sale in the next few months. Price will be more than I am willing to accept in banknotes, so cashier’s check is the thinking.

I prefer to stipulate payment via bank wire transfer (not EFT) but hard to document a wire at time of purchase with a private party.

Yup. Give me USDT, USDC or BTC and car/title is yours as soon as I see settlement in my wallet.

I also like to get power of attorney or give power of attorney with any purchase/sale just to make sure I don't have to deal with the owner/buyer ever again.

As a buyer, I want the title and the keys when I'm handing over the money.
Do your homework. I bought a car via wire. I then arranged my shipping and had the car shipped to me as it was out of state

I have someone saying they want to do a transaction by cashiers check. Asking for my name and address... cashiers check worries me.
