OK, I have an 09 335 xDrive with 17s (US Spec) and Sports Package.
I bought the car through the US Sales in Brussels. According to my dealer the car was dropped by 2cm and the front and rear tracks were widenend. This was done to up the handling a little. I have found documentation on the forum to confirm the tracks being widened but not the lowering by 2cm part. My dealer said it was, so to answer your question, that's what my dealer said. I understand that it would/should be a bit higher to handle a descent snow. But theoretically it was lowered just a bit. |

2 cm is pretty close to 1 inch lower.
If the '09 is dropped then looks like BMW heeded some or all of the xi'ers grief with the 4x4 suspension Good news for the '09ers |

But, regardless, I ordered a set of KW V3's for my 09 xi. I want a firm planted ride... something more like my old evo, but without the road noise :P -scheherazade |

wheel gap
Don't doubt it for a minute - There is quite a bit of wheel gap on the 09 xdrive especially and/or mostly in the front. It is really empasized by the stock wheels due to the high contrast between the wheel and the inside of the wheel well. With black wheels it seems to blend together and my eye perceives the gap above the front tire much less.
I did not know about the xdrive sitting higher than the 335i until after I ordered the car. I got the first one at my dealership, so I couldn't be too choosy after I ordered and it had been built. I would rather have a slightly lower, but not dropped car, but wouldn't give up my xdrive. I think that the suspension feels tighter than the 335i sport I drove, but not as nimble or agile. If it is going to kill you to have the look of the "xtra" height then don't get an xdrive. So, the point of my post is the ability to de-emphasize the height without lowering the car. I actually took these first 2 photos to show how high it looks. http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1225115177 http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1225201660 This last one shows the car with black wheels. I think you will agree that the height and wheel gap is much less evident, but it is still there. I improved the ride and handling by putting dunlop direzzas on her. http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1234984955 |

Looks no different than my '08. Other than the new xDrive badge.

debadged
Those badges lived on my car for about 10 days. If you did not notice.... they are gone in the later pics. It looks better without.

I have been following this thread to help me know more about the 335i with Xdrive that I have ordered. The discussion here about whether or not there is a height difference between a 335 2WD and 335 4WD raised a question in my mind. This probably makes me appear far more cynical than I really am, but here goes.
When I go to pick up my 335 x-drive in the next few weeks, I will be verifying that the options I requested are installed such as sport seats and comfort access. Other than the badge on the side is there a way to confirm, in the showroom, if the car is truly AWD? Thanks Tom |

you'll know
Yeah, just look for the bimmer that looks like a lifted hot rod in the front.
Anyhow, I was at a stoplight earlier next to an older 325xi and his car was significantly higher than my 335i xtra height. I got a good chuckle out of it. Do you guys remember when it was cool if your car was higher than someone elses? Look at this.... Nearly identical if I had a coupe. The one on the bottom is my car |

honestly i have no clue what u guys are talking about i have a 09 e92 jet black 335xdrive and i think its a little ridiculous calling it an suv. it might just be because my car is jet black so its less noticeable but aside from when you hit a bumb and the car jumps i dont mind the height. It might just be me but living in buffalo i guess its better to have the extra .5 inch or whatever if you didnt want the gap andthe clearance for snow y get AWD

i think my 08 looks much higher than the 09 pics here. although it might be due to the fact that mine is a coupe and so it may make it look higher. but judging by the actual gap sizes, my 08 335xi coupe looks to have a bigger gap than the 09 xDrive pic shown here.
